The Katy ISD Department of Special Education provides students with disabilities valuable educational experiences that prepare them for the future. Each student with a disability has the opportunity to participate in an appropriate educational setting designed to meet his/her individual needs.

Services are provided in the least restrictive environment that allows access to the general education curriculum and instruction with non-disabled peers to the extent that is appropriate for the student.

The Special Education Department provides a full continuum of services to meet the needs of eligible students. These services include general education, resource, self-contained, itinerant services, home-bound, vocational,  preschool services for students 3 to 5 years of age,  and early childhood intervention services for children from birth to three years of age.

Katy ISD is recognized for the quality of services it provides to students with disabilities.  During the 2004 and 2005 school year the districts Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities was recognized as a Showcase Promising Practice by the Texas Education Agency in the areas of Appropriate and Effective Assessment Models and The Effective Integration of Students with Disabilities with their Non-Disabled Peers.

The Special Education Advisory Committee serves as a resource network and a forum to dialog on special education issues in the Katy Independent School District.  The committee is comprised of parent representatives from each campus, central office personnel, campus administrators, community persons and students.
