Notice to Property owners in overlapping appraisal districts
In Texas, the appraisal district for each county appraises all taxable
property
for county purposes. However, there are instances where the appraisal district's
boundaries may overlap into other counties.
The Waller County Appraisal District
overlaps into Fort Bend County and Harris County to appraise
properties for Katy Independent School District, Waller Independent School
District, and the cities of Katy and Waller.
If your property is in one of these four taxing entities and Harris or Fort
Bend County, then your property is being appraised by more than one appraisal
district. When filing any papers with the appraisal districts, you must file the
information with each district. The names and addresses of the appraisal
districts are listed below:
Harris County Appraisal
District
P.O. Box 920975, Houston, Texas 77292-0975, 713-957-7800
Fort Bend County Appraisal
District
2801 B.F. Terry Blvd., Rosenburg, Texas 77471-5600, 281-344-8623
The law requires the chief appraisers to have a written understanding that
each appraiser has use of information, including an exemption application,
rendition, or other property owner report. The chief appraisers will eliminate
differences in their appraisal records data, including the property's ownership,
description, and physical characteristics. To the extent coordination is
feasible, they will work together to appraise property at the same value.
Below are some types of information that, when filling, you must file with
each appraisal district office:
- Current mailing address and any changes in property ownership.
- Homestead exemption application to qualify for lower taxes.
- Agricultural or timber appraisal application for special land
appraisal based on productivity use.
- Property rendition, if required, to list your property and to
give your opinion of its value.
- Property protest to the appraisal review board (ARB) if you
disagree with any appraisal district action on your property.
- Any other information or reports that may help the appraisal
district office list and appraise your property.

Texas Property Taxes: Taxpayers' Rights, Remedies & Responsibilities,
published by the State Comptroller of Public Accounts, has more information
about filing reports and their deadlines. for a copy , please call or visit any
of the appraisal district offices listed above or call the State Comptroller's
property tax assistance at 1-800-252-9121. You also will find the booklet and
other property tax information on the
