Environmental Assistant Director,
Maintenance and Operation
The Texas Hazardous Communication Act requires public employers to develop a
written training program for their employees to indoctrinate them of the
hazardous chemicals that may be in their workplace. Employees are trained
annually and a copy of the written training program is located in the
Environmental
office.
School districts must comply with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act
(AHERA) which was signed into law on October 22, 1986. It established the
framework for a regulation which requires that elementary and secondary schools
identify asbestos-containing materials in schools, institute programs aimed at
minimizing the risk of exposure and re-inspect those materials at least every
three years. Katy ISD performs periodic surveillance of any asbestos-containing
material twice a year, and maintains the three-year re-inspections as required.
