Katy ISD School Board Election - May 12, 2012 (Español) (Việt)
Katy ISD has a seven-member Board of Trustees whose members are elected at-large to fill available positions. In accordance with the provisions of the Texas Education Code, a person may not be elected trustee of Katy ISD unless the person is a qualified voter. An individual seeking election as a member of the Board of Trustees must have been a resident of the state for 12 months, and a resident of the District six months prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.
Filing period dates for Katy ISD Board of Trustee candidates for May 12, 2012 election
- Monday – February 6, 2012: First Day to file an application.
Applications are available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Bill Haskett in room 1610. (Secs. 1.006, 143.007(a), Election Code and 11.055 & 130.082(g), Education Code).
- Monday – March 5, 2012 (5:00 p.m.): Deadline to file an application for a place on the ballot. (Secs. 1.006, 143.007(a), 144.005(a), Election Code; and Sec. 11.055, Education Code, Chapter 286, Health & Safety Code).
Qualifications
The qualifications to serve as a board member in Katy Independent School District can be found in Board Policy BBA (Legal). The general qualifications to serve include:
- Be a United States citizen.
- Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
- Have not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.
- Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities. (Atty Gen. Op. LO 96-114 (1996)).
- Be a resident of Texas and the District for the period of time described at CANDIDATE'S RESIDENCY TERM, below. (Tex. Const. Art XVI, Sec. 14.Election Code 141.001(a); Brown v.Patterson, 609 S.W.2d 287 (Tex. Civ. App. - Dallas 1980, no writ)).
- Be a registered voter. (Education Code 11.061(b); Election Code 11.002.)
- Take the official oath of office. (Education Code 11.061(a)).
- Serve without compensation. (Education Code 11.061(d)).
Candidates Residency Term: an individual seeking election to the office of Trustee by having his or her name placed on the ballot must have been a resident of the state for 12 months, and a resident of the District for six months, prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot.

Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted each weekday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. beginning on Monday, April 30, 2012, and ending on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the following four locations:
