Safety & Security Resources

A safe learning environment for all students is the top priority of the Katy Independent School District. Assessment, planning, development of protocols, training and evaluation are key components in ensuring that our students' education will not be disrupted by any safety concerns and that our staff are properly trained to respond to any emergency situation.

Bullying

The Texas Education Code defines bullying as engaging in written or verbal expression, expression through electronic means, or physical conduct that occurs on school property, at a school-sponsored or school-related activity, or in a vehicle operated by the district that:

  1. Has the effect or will have the effect of physically harming a student, damaging a student's property, or placing a student in reasonable fear of harm to the student's person or of damage to the student's property, or

  2. Is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive enough that the action or threat creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for a student.

Procedures for Reporting Allegations of Bullying

The District prohibits bullying on school property, at school-sponsored or school-related activities, or in any vehicle operated by the District. Bullying may include verbal or written expression, expression through electronic means, or physical conduct. Bullying is not tolerated by the District, and any student or parent of a student who believes that the student or another student has experienced bullying or that a student has engaged in bullying is encouraged to immediately report the incident. Retaliation against anyone involved in the reporting process is a violation of District policy and is prohibited.

Students or parents may report an alleged incident of bullying, orally or in writing, to a teacher, school counselor, principal or other District employee. Students or parents may contact the District or campus to obtain the Student Report of Alleged Bullying that may be used to submit the report.

Please note that after submission of the complaint to the District employee, the District may assign the report to a campus administrator to follow up on the submitted report and any other important matters pertaining to the report. We encourage you to communicate with your designated campus administrator during this time.

Checking Students Out of School

Katy ISD has established procedures for releasing students from a campus. For details regarding identification, permission and verification for releasing students, speak to campus administration.

SafetyNET

The SafetyNET system allows students to alert district/campus officials of concerns about other students that may include bullying, potential violence, drugs, and weapons without being identified.  Click here to access SafetyNET.

Student Safety

Each campus has a school safety liaison that is responsible from planning, mitigating, and responding to safety and security issues.  To report a safety and security concern related to school property or a school-sponsored event, call the specific campus principal or school safety liaison.

Truancy Enforcement

The truancy enforcement officers work closely with campus administrators to prevent unexcused absences.  However, when all interventions fail, criminal charges are brought against the students or parents who intentionally violate the state compulsory attendance statutes.  For more information about compulsory attendance laws, call the Katy ISD Police Department at (281) 237-4000.

Visiting Your Campus

For the safety and security of Katy ISD students and staff, all visitors must check in at the campus front office and sign in through Raptor, Katy ISD’s visitor tracking system.  Learn more about visiting your campus.
