Katy ISD Coach Joseph Receives Distinguished HonorKaty ISD Coach Joseph Receives Distinguished Honor2018-12-11T02:46:07Z<div class="ExternalClassB457878535FE48859D232E838092F942"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">He's been with Katy Independent School District for the past 36 years and is best known for his passion and dedication to the Katy High School Tigers Football team.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">However, Coach Gary Joseph's influence and devotion is not limited to athletes only.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">His guidance has been embraced by thousands of students who attend Katy High School.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">For this reason, it was no surprise when he was awarded the 2018 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Sponsor Excellence Award. The accolade was created to identify and recognize outstanding sponsors who assist students in developing and refining their extracurricular talents to the highest degree possible within the educational system.</span><span style="text-align:justify;"> </span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">"Coach Joseph was one of 15 people statewide to win this outstanding award. Katy ISD Earns State's Highest Fiscal Accountability RatingKaty ISD Earns State's Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating2018-12-10T16:20:11Z<div class="ExternalClass19768379FA4F4B13A8934C04E3276BBE"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">Katy Independent School District has received a rating of "A" for "Superior Achievement" under the Texas Schools FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas).</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">The "Superior Achievement" rating is the state's highest level, demonstrating the quality of Katy ISD's financial management and reporting system.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">This is the 16<sup>th</sup> year of Schools FIRST, a financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76<sup>th</sup> Texas Legislature in 1999.  The primary goal of Schools FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school district's financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas' school financial system.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">"This rating shows that our district is making the most of our taxpayers' dollars and it shows Katy ISD is high achieving in the classroom while accomplishing these results in a cost-effective and efficient way," said Katy ISD Chief Financial Officer Christopher J. Smith.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Texas Education Agency assigned one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being "A" for "Superior Achievement", followed by "B" for "Above-Standard Achievement", "C" for "Standard Achievement" and "F" for "Substandard Achievement".<br></p><p><br></p></div>

Katy ISD Teachers of the Year Honored at Brick UnveilingKaty ISD Teachers of the Year Honored at Brick Unveiling2018-12-07T15:12:58Z<div class="ExternalClass20147BB4871C42559DFF12F2CAA485B5"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">When walking down the brick sidewalk located at Katy Heritage Park, there's a piece of Katy Independent School District history you simply can't miss.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Hundreds of bricks at the park are dedicated to the past and present Katy ISD teachers who have devoted countless hours towards the education of their students.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">On Wednesday, December 5, Katy ISD along with Venus Construction and Country Park Portraits, unveiled a new set of bricks honoring the 67 Campus Teachers of the Year, for the 2017-2018 school year.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">"As a former administrator of Katy ISD, we cannot be the school district we are today without quality teachers in every classroom," said Acting Superintendent Ken Gregorski.  "Our teachers put smiles on our students every day and these bricks are only a small token of appreciation for everything they do," added Gregorski.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Katy ISD has some of the best teachers in the country and with these commemorative bricks their legacy will be etched in the history of the District as well as in the community.  This year, as Katy ISD celebrates a Century of Legacy, the district recognizes that the priority of its founders of providing quality education, lives on today in our current teachers.</p><p>Katy ISD thanks Venus Construction, Country Park Portraits and Katy Heritage Society for providing a space for the brick laying.  During the ceremony, the Katy High School Choir provided entertainment with several singing performances.</p><p><a href="">Photo Gallery of the Teacher of the Year Brick Unveiling</a> </p><p><img src="/PublishingImages/Lists/latestnews/AllItems/120518_TOY%20Brick%20Unveiling%20(67).JPG" alt="120518_TOY Brick Unveiling (67).JPG" style="margin:5px;width:611px;" /><br></p><p><br></p></div>

Katy ISD Approves Several New LeadersKaty ISD Approves Several New Leaders2018-11-17T20:16:28Z<div class="ExternalClass8DC3E551672844689BCB89396035CFAF"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">Katy Independent School District will be starting 2019 with several new principals.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">During this week's regular Board meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved Stephanie Vaughan as the new principal of Elementary #42, Carrie Caruso as the principal of McDonald Junior High, Elisabeth Brodt as the principal of Junior High #16 and Brian Schuss as the assistant superintendent for the Human Resources Department.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Elementary #42 is one of Katy ISD's latest school additions set to open its doors for the 2019-20 school year and Principal <strong>Stephanie Vaughan</strong> will be there to welcome students to their new school.  Her extensive experience in education is a perfect fit for this campus and its flourishing community.  Ms. Vaughan began teaching in Aldine ISD in 1999.  In 2001, she began her career in Katy ISD's Sundown Elementary (SE) where she taught for three years before being named as assistant principal.  She served in such role from 2004 until 2007.  Following her role at SE, she was chosen as the first principal of the newest Katy ISD campus, Ursula Stephens Elementary (USE).  She has served in that role since 2007.  Ms. Vaughan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Wyoming and a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston.  She will begin her new role in February 1, 2019.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Another new school set to open its doors to students in 2019 is Junior High #16.  The Board of Trustees named <strong>Elisabeth Brodt</strong> as its first principal.  Ms. Brodt began her career in education in the Oklahoma City Public Schools as a Strings Specialist in 1999.  In 2001, she relocated to Texas and joined Katy ISD as the Jr. High School Orchestra Director at Cinco Ranch Jr. High School (CRJH).  From 2005 to 2012, she served in various assistant principal roles at Beckendorff Junior High.  During her time there, she served in the capacity of 6<sup>th</sup> and 7<sup>th</sup> grade Assistant Principal, Student Support Assistant Principal and 8<sup>th</sup> grade Assistant Principal.  Ms. Brodt took an administrative position at Seven Lakes High School (SLHS) in 2012 where she served in the freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior Assistant Principal roles until 2016.  At that time, she was named associate principal of the campus.  Ms. Brodt received her Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Oklahoma City University and a Masters in Educational Mid Management from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.  She will begin her new role in January 7, 2019.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Carrie Caruso</strong> will be moving just down the street from her current campus to McDonald Junior High(MDJH).  She was named the principal of MDJH after serving as the Associate Principal at Morton Ranch High School.  Ms. Caruso began her teaching career at Cypress Falls High School in 2006.  Two years later, she joined the Katy ISD family when she accepted a position at Cardiff Junior High (CJH) as the Special Education Department Chair for one year before being named an Instructional Coach on the campus.  In 2011, she transferred to Taylor High School (THS) to become the Social Studies Instructional Coach.  In 2013, Ms. Caruso  became the Assistant Principal of Mayde Creek Junior High (MCJH).  In December of that same year, she became the Assistant Principal of Student Support at Morton Ranch High School (MRHS) and then took on the role of Associate Principal at that campus.  Ms. Caruso has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government from the University of Texas and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.  She will begin her new role on January 7, 2019.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong></strong><strong>Brian Schuss</strong> joins Katy ISD from Flour Bluff ISD where he was serving as the district's superintendent. Rockets Chris Paul Makes Surprise Visit to Katy ISD StudentsRockets Chris Paul Makes Surprise Visit to Katy ISD Students2018-11-16T23:14:42Z<div class="ExternalClassA5BE84A6C29C4B11AB6078F7A8F691ED"><p>​<span style="text-align:justify;">Anxious to start their well-deserved Thanksgiving break, students at Katy Independent School District Paetow High School (PHS) never imagined that Rockets player Chris Paul would show up at their pep rally on Friday.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">The visit was coordinated by the Chris Paul Family Foundation, which the point guard player and his family established in 2005, with the purposed of positively impacting individuals and families in education, sports and life.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">The foundation provides resources that enrich and strengthen healthy development of strong communities.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Paetow High School was chosen by Chris Paul as the only campus in Houston to sponsor shirts for the students marking the beginning of the first PHS Varsity Basketball program.  Prior to joining the pep rally Paul met with the varsity boys' basketball team to present them with new Chris Paul basketball shoes.  A three-point challenge and photo opportunity kicked off the holiday break for students who took away with them a unique Paetow HS shirt as well as some inspiring words.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">"A lot of times people forget that I went to school just like them.  I went to high school, college and I played junior varsity," said Rockets Player Chris Paul.  "I was so driven.  I understood that none of this things came without school work, so it's a partnership," added Paul.<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Chris Paul's visit is part of a continual relationship with the school which started last year when basketball players attended a Rockets game and had the opportunity to hear Paul speak in the Rockets practice gym.</p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Newscast Elements</span>:<br> <a href="">Broll and Sound on Tape (SOT) of Event</a><br></p><p><a href="">Photo Gallery</a><br></p><p><br></p></div>
Attendance Boundary Modifications Approved for New Elementary SchoolAttendance Boundary Modifications Approved for New Elementary School2018-11-15T22:00:26Z<div class="ExternalClass73CE0F51637D46BA8EA8EAC4E60F627B"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">With the construction of Elementary #42 set to be completed for the 2019-20 school year, Board of Trustee members considered and discussed attendance boundary modification (ABM) options.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">After seeking the public's consideration through a survey, Trustees approved Option #1 which can be viewed on the </span><a href="/abm/Pages/ABM-2019-2020-Elementary42.aspx" style="text-align:justify;">Attendance Boundary Modification website</a><span style="text-align:justify;">.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The survey, which was sent out in June 2018, contained three options which were sent to families who could potentially be impacted by the change.  On October 17, the survey was closed and District administrators along with Population and Survey Analysts (PASA) collaboratively crafted the recommendations from the community.  The results showed that 40% of families that could be impacted by this change participated in the survey bringing the total participants to 1,442.  Option #1 resulted in the most favored choice with 47% of participants fully supporting the recommendation, 22% somewhat supporting the recommendation, 12% not supporting the recommendation and 20% indicating they were unsure.  This option represents a balance between building utilization, proximity for students and peer stability in the education environment.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Katy ISD invites all parents to review the new option as well as some of the most frequently asked questions pertaining to ABMs via the <a href="/abm/Pages/ABM-2019-2020-Elementary42.aspx">ABM website</a>.<br></p><p><br></p></div>
