After leaving the hospitality of Herr Schumann in Victoria, Mina and her
father continue to journey to their final destination. They
encounter many obstacles along the way, unwanted night visitors, Indians,
and exhaustion. Upon arrival in Fredericksburg Mina's father and
many neighbors cooperate to build cabins for each of the families. As the
chapter closes, Mina faces her final challenge of her father leaving her
with neighbors to work.
