In November 2006, voters in Katy ISD approved a $269 million bond package to fund the construction of new schools, renovations to existing facilities, technology updates, safety and security enhancements, and the purchase of land and buses. Noteworthy Facts:
- The bond program is projected to complete under the entire bond allocation
- All projects which were identified in the bond program will be completed. (Wolfe re-roof currently on hold pending future facility direction)
- The following significant additional projects approved by the Board were able to be completed within the bond program:
- Miller Career Center - Shell space for growth
- Raines High School - Shell space for growth; 8 classroom addition
- Mayde Creek Elementary - New T5 lighting; renovated Life Skills area
- Sundown Elementary - New T5 lighting; renovated Life Skills area
- Winborn Elementary - New T5 lighting
- Katy High School - 1250 seat (in lieu of 500) baseball facility
- Katy High School - Renovate Tiger Stadium concession
- Mayde Creek High School - New glazing (waterproofing) in additional stairwell
- Mayde Creek Campus - Water plant expansion and renovation
- Mayde Creek High School - Existing swim facility renovation and conversion
- Approximately 1 million square feet of building area has been added to our facility inventory for an increase of 10% in district wide square footage.
- To date out of this bond authorization the District has acquired approximately 189 acres of additional property to accommodate future school facilities. Funds remain to acquire property for the equivalent of one junior high and one elementary school site.
- 93 school buses have been purchased with funds remaining for approximately 40 more purchases over the next year.
- 7,500 computers installed thus far for new and retrofitted campuses
- 2,000 new video surveillance cameras installed.
