From nominations from school district personnel from across the country, the team of administrators was selected as those who best use data to positively affect student achievement. Read the full article at http://sungardk12.com/lead-without-limits-wisdom-from-katy-isd-five-keys-to-visionary-initiatives/.

The Lead without Limits Awards program recognizes school districts, schools, departments, administrators, and educators that leverage technology to help improve student achievement and/or school or district efficiency. Data All-Stars, one of the Lead without Limits Award categories, use data to positively affect student achievement by applying best practices or innovating processes. Whether their initiatives are impacting one student or hundreds of students, recipients are unlocking student potential by applying insights gained from an analysis of data.

According to Jamey Hynds, Katy ISD's director of business intelligence, district leadership charged the Business Intelligence Department with launching an initiative to support the use of analytics to improve decision making in the district. In a district with more than 70,000 students and almost 10,000 employees, the team elected to focus on creating a performance management portal, called the Principal Dashboards, to support informed decision making by the district's 250 to 300 campus principals and assistant principals.

"The project started with the development of a complete enterprise data warehouse that is linked to our student information system, eSchoolPLUS, and to our business information system," he explains. "By pulling all those data elements into one place, we are able to allow leadership throughout the district to really drill into the data they need to make decisions from a single screen."

Frank Lavelle, president and chief executive officer of the FIS education business unit, celebrates Katy ISD's efforts on behalf of all educational stakeholders. "This visionary new tool puts the power of integrated data at the fingertips of the district's educational leadership," says Lavelle. "With the insights they glean from a single screen, principals and assistant principals can envision district initiatives that support student success and enhance district efficiency."
