Katy Independent School District

Student Support Services

The Student Support Services Department encompasses four departments/offices

Office of Counseling:

This office coordinates and leads the elementary and secondary school counselors who provide service in the components of guidance, individual planning, and system support.

Department of Fine Arts:

Katy ISD provides opportunity in the fine arts of art, dance, music, and theater.  Fine arts education begins in elementary school where students engage in a fine arts curriculum taught by certified, degreed music and art specialists.  Beginning in grade six, the fine arts courses become elective choices.  In all there are over 80 different fine arts course offerings in Katy ISD.  For the past 12 of 13 years, Katy ISD has been named among the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants.

Office of Health Services:

This office supports the school nurses and aides who staff clinics at the districts' 59 campuses.  School health care staff address individual student and staff illnesses/accidents as well as administer daily medications and required specialized medical procedures, perform mandated screenings, and ensure immunizations are current.  Health service staff provide health education, health counseling and environmental safety to students and staff on a daily basis and are important members of student committees for Response to Intervention (RTI), Admission Review Dismissal (ARD), and Section 504.

Professional Learning:

LEARNING. The culture of Katy ISD is clear. Learning for ALL is paramount to the ultimate success of our children. For generations to come. That's what #bethelegacy is all about!

From Paraprofessional "Lunch & Learn" to Principal "Collaboratives", there's an expectation of and excitement for learning. Job-imbedded opportunities for growth abound, regardless of the role one plays within the organization.

How does that happen?

Mentorships for New Teachers, Instructional Coaches, Assistant Principals and Principals are just a few of the formalized structures that support the learning of those committed to improving their craft.

Summer Professional Learning sessions are provided by Katy ISD's best and brightest practitioners. That's right! It is our belief that the smartest person in the room is "the room"! We are strongest when we work and learn together.

LEADING.  Leadership exists and is fostered at every level of the organization.

LISTENING. Listening and responding to your needs is of utmost importance to the Professional Learning Team.
