15th Annual Santa Cops Program Annual Santa Cops Program2018-01-04T19:00:51Z<div class="ExternalClassA210014BE1D6467EAE2BE7365D1A0B93"><p>​Thanks to the generous support of the community and Katy ISD staff the 15th annual Katy ISD Police Department Santa Cops program was able to provide Christmas gifts to 920 Katy ISD students who otherwise may not have had a Christmas this year.</p></div>

Chief Jinks and Deputy Chief Meier then surprised her by presenting her with an official Katy ISD Police Department challenge coin, a Katy ISD Police Officers Association challenge coin, a department patch and a Teddy Cop for her efforts in bringing awareness and support to police officers. 14th Annual Santa Cops Program Annual Santa Cops Program2016-12-16T20:42:30Z<div class="ExternalClass18D9665D789C41DFBBFD2841461B470B"><p>​The Katy ISD Police Department Santa Cops Program kicked off it's 14th annual event benefitting underpriveledged children in Katy ISD elementary schools.  With the assistance of staff, student organizations and the public the program was able to provide gifts to over 675 children in need this year raising more than $67,000 dollars in donations.  Again <span style="color:#1d2129;font-family:"helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:14px;background-color:#ffffff;">We want to send our sincere thanks for the outpouring of generosity and support that the district and community showed when we sent out our plea for help during our 14th Annual Santa Cops Christmas Program. It was so awesome to see all of the different student groups and classes getting involved and participating in our program again this year. Please let them know they truly made a difference i</span><span class="text_exposed_show" style="display:inline;font-family:"helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif;color:#1d2129;font-size:14px;background-color:#ffffff;">n a child’s life. The response was so overwhelming! Thanks to all of you, we were able to help over 675 of our children have a Merry Christmas. We could not have done it without the help of all of you! Teddy Cop Program Kickoff Event at Griffin Elementary Cop Program Kickoff Event at Griffin Elementary2016-09-25T00:40:50Z<div class="ExternalClassFC0BAE8BCDC2482493A28991AC205248"><span style="font-size:14px;">The Katy ISD Police Department kicked off it's "Teddy Cop" Program at Griffin Elementary on September 23rd, 2016.  The program was started by Officer Luis Santiago as a way to show special needs students that police officers are their friends and are always there to protect them.  Each special needs student received their very own "Teddy Cop" bear.</span></div>

Topics are designed to showcase how Katy ISD approaches school safety. Presentations may include police operations, emergency management, the campus safety task force, the internet crimes against children task force, the gang task force, the weather service, and others. Tours of the police communications center, specialty equipment and emergency vehicles, along with demonstrations of canine search techniques, police bicycle procedures, and police communications are also anticipated.</p><p>The Safe Schools Parent Academy is by invitation only. Tabor and Leonard Merrell Center General Manager Ben Rolens accepted the Facility of Merit Award on behalf of Katy ISD at the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.</p></div>

Robert Jinks Appointed as Katy ISD Chief of Police Jinks Appointed as Katy ISD Chief of Police2015-09-02T13:26:01Z<div class="ExternalClass9C146C2171CD46C9ACDC5367380378B6"><p>​</p><p><strong><img src="/dept/police/PublishingImages/Jinks%201-17-2014.jpg" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:216px;height:206px;" /></strong> </p><p>Katy ISD announced this week that Robert Jinks, former Assistant Police Chief, was appointed to the position of Katy ISD Chief of Police. This appointment comes after the retirement of former Chief of Police Mark Hopkins. </p><p>Chief Jinks began his law enforcement career in 1977, and worked with several law enforcement agencies before coming to Katy ISD in 1984 as a Security Specialist. At that time, he was appointed to  the steering committee to study the feasibility of forming a school district police department, culminating in a school board resolution that established the Katy ISD Police Department in December of 1988. </p><p>Chief Jinks is on the Executive Board of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, and a member of the Houston Area Police Chief's Association. He was also a member of the Texas School District Police Chief's Association, where he held a seat on the executive board.</p></div>
