Ties & Tiaras Commemorative Artwork

Each year, Partners in Education presents our Ties & Tiaras Silver, Gold and Platinum sponsors with a commemorative masterpiece designed exclusively by Katy ISD art students.   The 2016 masterpiece was created by six Morton Ranch High School art students.

 The 2016 KEYS Commemorative Masterpiece

"Phoenix Rising"

 ""

"Working on the KEYS artwork project this year has been a great experience for everyone involved.  The students spent a few days collaborating on what mentorship meant and brainstormed on symbolism that they could use to represent these ideas.  They wanted something bright and cheerful so they began with the garden theme.  Each flower they selected in the garden has a specific meaning like “friendship” and “caring”.  The flowers were also a representation of a child blossoming from their relationship with a mentor.

They decided to use the image of a phoenix rising  to also represent the mentee rising from their circumstances.  The Phoenix is rising from a book lying in the garden to show that the mentor has opened a new chapter for the mentee.  The book was once locked but now is opened for the child.

The hard work that the students did, through challenges and theme development, bonded a group that may have never met otherwise.  They formed a team and a friendship giving up many afternoons and several Saturdays to spend working on the painting.  They felt honored to be a part of the process and it will  remain a positive memory from their high school years."
