Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requires that paraprofessionals meet one of the following qualifications if the paraprofessional will perform instructional duties in a Title I, Part A program:
Have completed 48 semester hours of college coursework; or
Have obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
Have met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics; or
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
If you have not completed 48 college hours or earned an associate's degree or higher, you can become recognized as a highly qualified paraprofessional by Katy ISD through the successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment. The ParaPro Assessment is an online test which is administered monthly at the Educational Support Complex in Katy ISD. The fee for the test is $67.00. You can find study guides and additional information about the assessment at https://www.ets.org/parapro/about.
Unfortunately, our district offices were flooded during Hurricane Harvey and we are cancelling our monthly Katy ISD Parapro Testing until further notice when our district administration building has completed the repairs and restoration. We expect to resume our regular monthly Parapro testing schedule this Spring.
However, we are offering one Parapro testing opportunity on December 11, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Miller Career and Technology Center. The deadline to register for this test is Monday, December 4, 2017. To register, you must come to the Human Resources office and submit the $67 fee with cash or money order on or before the deadline.
Thank you for your understanding.
