Katys Special Ed Program

Katy ISDs Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities has been
recognized in the category of Appropriate and Effective Assessment Models
Used for Students with Disabilities by the Texas Education Agencys Office
of Special Education and will be included in the 2004 Showcase of Promising
Practices.
Katy ISD is one of four programs statewide included in the showcase
that are currently meeting specific challenges of special education and are
providing quality services to students with disabilities in a designated
category of service delivery.
Assessment is a very important component of the special education
program and we believe that the model that we use here in Katy is very
effective, said Fred Shafer, director of special education for Katy ISD.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to share with other districts around
that state what we have learned and to help all special education students
in Texas.
The 2004 Showcase of Promising Practices was announced July 13 at the
Texas Council of Administrators of Special Educations Summer Conference in
Austin.
During the 2004-05 school year, representatives from Katy ISD will
network with Texas school districts to further develop and improve special
education services throughout the state.
The Showcase Promising Practices is a collaborative project among
