A loft of about 20-25 homing pigeons are kept on the OLC grounds. The birds are used to teach animal instincts and behavior, bird characteristics, migration, and homing ability, as well as the early history of using the birds for human communication. The birds are used mainly with second and seventh grade students. The students place a message on the bird and take it to their campus and release it. The birds are also used in the
OLC Summer Recreation Program.
