49th Science Engineering Fair
The 49th
Science Engineering Fair of Houston will begin on March 13, 2008 at the
Brown Convention Center, Hall E.
Students who participate
expand their practical experiences in science, math and engineering. It
is an opportunity for students formulate an hypothesis, develop a
procedure, record observations and data, analyze data, draw conclusions
and present their findings.
The science fair is open to students in junior and senior high schools.
Students may select to compete in several different areas; a project,
the poster design contest, the science writing contest or team project.

Wednesday, November 21, 2007
– List of students from each school who will be attending the
Science Engineering Fair due to Joanne Elston or Wanda Fleming at
ESC.

Monday, November 26, 2007
– Application deadline for projects that involve either Vertebrate
Animals, Environmental Sampling, Human Subjects (including surveys
of human subjects), Recombinant DNA, Tissues, Microorganisms, and
potentially Dangerous Chemicals or Equipment. Applications must
be sent to Joanne Elston or Wanda Fleming at ESC who will send them
in for SRC committee first approval.

Wednesday, December 19, 2007
– IF needed: Final revised copies of SRC forms
must be sent to Joanne Elston or Wanda Fleming at ESC who
will send them in for SRC committee final approval.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008
– Final list of students from each school who will be
entering projects, posters and writings are due to Joanne Elston or
Wanda Fleming at ESC.

Wednesday, January 30, 2008
– All entry forms for the poster
design contest, science writing contest and projects are due to
Joanne Elston or Wanda Fleming at ESC. All posters and
science writings will be due also at this time.

Thursday, March 13, 2008
– 4:15-7:15 – Student registration and move in at the Brown
Convention Center. Students must have copies
of all needed forms. Students must set up their own exhibit and be
present until both the Rules/Safety and Scientific
Review Committees approve their exhibit.

Friday, March 14, 2008
– Judging of exhibits

Saturday, March 15, 2008
– Fair and poster exhibits open to the public. Awards Ceremony from
2:00- 5:00. After the awards ceremony exhibits may be
removed.

April 10-12, 2008
– Texas State Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio
