Curriculum
Katy ISDs Curriculum Department is responsible for the development, the alignment, and the instructional support for over 650 courses of study. Curriculum, by KISD definition, is the total program of formal studies offered by our district resulting in an organizational plan and design for learning.
Using a framework of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, KISD has worked to develop curriculum using the vertical team approach. Teachers from elementary through high school worked as teams within each content area to develop well-planned and aligned curricula to maximize the learning experiences of each student in our district.
Using a standards based curriculum, student expectations are articulated in the form of learning objectives and are sequenced by six weeks to pace instruction.
Teachers access their learning objectives through an online curriculum system, Katy Management of Automated Curriculum (KMAC). KMAC provides a database of instructional support for each of the objectives taught. Resources, assessment items, suggested strategies, and structures for classroom management facilitate the lesson planning and delivery to offer needed instructional support for teachers and students.
The KISD Curriculum Department is dedicated to supporting the core work of the district by providing the learning experiences and resources needed for high student achievement.
