Katy ISD Announces New High School Semester Exam Schedule
Exams to Carry New Weight for Secondary Students

(Feb. 1, 2012) – Starting this spring, all Katy ISD high school students will follow the recently released five-day semester exam schedule which starts on May 24.  The new schedule reflects an adjustment in number of exam days, which results in a significant student attendance revenue increase from the state.

The new schedule maintains student exam exemptions, and requires high school students to remain on campus through 5th period during each exam day.  As with each school day, Katy ISD abides by the TEA’s student attendance requirements on semester exam dates.  Students who are exempt from exams on the identified dates will participate in alternate activities provided by their campus.

Additionally, Katy ISD is adjusting the weight of semester exam grades for high school students from 25 percent to 15 percent of the total semester grade.  This adjustment will align junior high and high school semester exam grading standards.

“Aligning secondary semester exam grading standards will make communication to students and parents more consistent and emphasize student success and efforts on coursework during the term.  In addition, with the STAAR/EOC testing this year and the design of a new student management system in Katy ISD, adjusting the total weight that semester exams have on final grades is timely,” said Patricia Paetow, Area 2 Assistant Superintendent. “This adjustment will align all secondary student semester exam standards, grades six through 12, starting in spring 2012.”

Spring high school course semester exam dates for 2012 are May 24-25 and May 29-31. For the full schedule, click here or visit www.katyisd.org.
