Eight Students Chosen as Candidates for Presidential Scholars Program
(Feb. 6, 2012) – A total of eight Katy ISD high school seniors have been listed as candidates for the U.S. Department of Education’s 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. These students are eight of only 125 students in Texas to be named as candidates for the recognition that honors the nation’s most distinguished students.
The following Katy ISD students have been named 2012 candidates:
- Xuezhen Du, Seven Lakes HS
- Raymond Han, Cinco Ranch HS
- Julia Kwok, Cinco Ranch HS
- Tianyi Liu, Cinco Ranch HS
- Juhie Vyas, Seven Lakes HS
- Jonathan Xu, Seven Lakes HS
- Renee Zhan, Seven Lakes HS
- Evan Zhang, Cinco Ranch HS
Established in 1964, the Presidential Scholars Program is one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Students are chosen based on two paths of accomplishment – academic or arts. Up to 141 candidates will be chosen for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Each of the final scholars will receive an expense-paid trip to Washington D.C., where they will have access to national and international leaders and accomplished individuals.
