Katy ISD Students Win Big in Regional Scholastic Art Competition

(January 14, 2010) – Katy ISD students broke their own record with this year’s Regional Scholastic Art Award competition, bringing home 32 Gold Key and 16 Silver Key student awards, for a total of 48 awards – the most the district has ever won.

The district submitted 124 entries from 10 campuses including: Beck, Katy, Memorial Parkway and Mayde Creek Junior High Schools; and Cinco Ranch, Katy, Mayde Creek, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes and Taylor High Schools.  The competition includes public and private junior high and high schools from the greater Houston area, and Katy ISD received the greatest number of student Gold Key Awards out of all schools participating.

All 32 Gold Key winners will advance to the national level and will have their work on display through Feb. 1 at the Art League of Houston, located at 1953 Montrose Blvd. A Gold Key Award Reception will also be held on Feb. 4, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., at the Harris County Department of Education, located at 6300 Irvington Blvd.

The 16 Silver Key winners are on exhibit through Jan. 31, at Texas Art Supply, located at 2001 Montrose Blvd., and will also have a reception on Jan. 31, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., at Texas Art Supply.
