Katy ISD Board Votes to Extend Superintendent Frailey’s Contract
(August 26, 2009) – Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey and the Katy ISD Board of Trustees have agreed upon a new employment contract that extends the superintendent’s term until June 30, 2014. The contract, which was approved by the Board on Aug. 19 and accepted by Frailey on Aug. 26, sets the superintendent’s base salary at $280,000 per year.
“For the past two years, Superintendent Frailey has done an outstanding job leading Katy ISD,” says Katy ISD Board President Joe Adams. “During this time he has exhibited the leadership skills and qualities that are necessary to meet the challenges that Katy ISD will be facing in the coming years. As such, the terms of his contract are similar to other chief executive officers of school districts of our size and more importantly, representative of the value that the Katy ISD Board of Trustees places on his leadership. We are aware that a person of his talent is going to be pursued and we want to secure his service for our district. It is our desire for him to continue to lead this district into the future.”
Other key features of the superintendent’s contract include:
- A lump sum payment upon execution of the contract
- Monthly car and telecommunications allowance for district business
- Annual contributions to superintendent’s 403(b) annuity
- Health and life insurance premiums paid by the district

“I am both pleased and grateful that the Board of Trustees has placed its confidence in me to lead Katy ISD through the challenges and opportunities that our district will face over the next five years,” says Frailey. “Since coming to Katy two years ago, I am reminded every day that I have been given a wonderful opportunity to serve a community that values the role of public education and is supportive of what we do here in Katy ISD. I am also honored to work with and lead an outstanding group of individuals who are dedicated to ensuring every child that is entrusted to our care is given every possibility to achieve their fullest potential.”
