Katy ISD Student Heads to New York to Receive Prestigious AwardKaty ISD Student Heads to New York to Receive Prestigious Award2018-05-17T14:12:38Z<div class="ExternalClass4C5660A409764ACABA475C2D5A644EBD"><p>​<span style="text-align:justify;">Kaitlyn Sheroke, a senior at Katy Independent School District Seven Lakes High School (SLHS), has been awarded the prestigious Gold Medal Scholastic Writing Award for her short story titled </span><em style="text-align:justify;">Sirenia</em><span style="text-align:justify;">.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Kaitlyn will be traveling to New York City to be recognized during the annual Carnegie Hall ceremony on June 7.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">"We are over-the-moon proud of our young scholar who has been a student in Katy ISD since her elementary school days," said SLHS English Department Chair Pam Cannon.  "Kaitlyn's writing is more than just an assignment, she pours out her heart into each and every one of her pieces.  The SLHS Spartans are proud to see her work receiving the national attention it deserves," added Cannon. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">To receive this award, students must first go through regional judging in order to advance to national review.  This year, Kaitlyn along with nine other Katy ISD students became regional Gold Key participants.  The history of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is known for its rich notable alumni, like Sylvia Plath and Joyce Carol Oates, who have gone on to write a variety of contemporary works of literature which are read around the world.</p><p>After graduation, Kaitlyn will be attending Baylor University.</p><p><img src="/PublishingImages/Lists/latestnews/AllItems/051618_SLHS_Kaitlyn%20Sheroke%20-%20smaller.jpg" alt="051618_SLHS_Kaitlyn Sheroke - smaller.jpg" style="margin:5px;" /><br></p><p>(Attribution:  Seven Lakes High School Senior Kaitlyn Sheroke)</p></div>

This year, Power Reviews will be held on Monday, May 14<sup>th</sup>, Tuesday, May 15<sup>th</sup>, Wednesday, May 16<sup>th</sup>, and Thursday, May 17<sup>th</sup>.  Ticket sales for all reviews begin at 6:45 am on Friday, May 11<sup>th</sup> in the <strong>Main Campus Commons</strong>. 2018 Katy ISD Board Election Results2018 Katy ISD Board Election Results2018-05-06T02:36:14Z<div class="ExternalClassC5CF6D94358F4A45A7B30EA7EDE48108"><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>KATY [May 5, 2018]</strong> – Katy ISD voters elected candidates Susan Gesoff for Position 6 and Dawn Champagne for Position 7 to serve on the Katy ISD Board of Trustees today.  Trustees Bryan Michalsky (Position 6) and Charles Griffin (Position 7) decided not to run again.  Katy ISD trustees are the governing body of the school district and are the main advising group that oversees and shapes policies.  Individuals serving as board members are not employees of Katy ISD, yet they dedicate countless hours to lead an A+ school district. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The unofficial results are:</p><ul><li>Susan Gesoff:  Position 6  -Total votes: 3,324</li></ul><ul><li>Scott Martin:  Position 6 - Total votes: 2,182</li></ul><p><br></p><ul><li><p>Dawn Champagne:  Position 7 - Total votes: 3,025</p></li><li><p>Don Massey: Position 7 - Total votes: 2,629</p></li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">View for the <a href="/dept/sb/Pages/Board-Election.aspx">complete list of election results</a>.</p></div>
