Katy ISD Appoints New PrincipalsKaty ISD Appoints New Principals2018-06-06T18:52:20Z<div class="ExternalClassC924E71F247C47E2A1947A3B84822C16"><p>Katy Independent School District Superintendent Lance Hindt appointed Dr. Diego Linares as the principal of Raines High School (RHS) and the Opportunity Awareness Center (OAC), and Cheryl Glasser as the principal of Rylander Elementary (RRE). </p><p>"I am excited to join Katy ISD as the leader of these unique campuses," said Linares. "I believe it is important to educate the whole student, and I am looking forward to working with our community and teachers to provide pathways for all students to achieve success."<br></p><p>Linares comes to Katy ISD with 15 years of experience in education. Most recently, he has served as a school support officer in the Houston Independent School District. He has also been a principal at both the elementary and high school levels, as well as a high school assistant principal and bilingual teacher. Linares received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Santo Tomas, Bogota Colombia, his Masters in Education from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and his Doctorate of Education in Professional Leadership from the University of Houston.</p><p>For Glasser, this new role offers an opportunity to spread her enthusiasm for cultivating transformational learning experiences.</p><p>"I am honored and thrilled to become a part of the Rylander family," said Glasser. "I am a leader who puts kids first in all decision making and promotes a community of learners.  My passion is to foster positive, collaborative relationships with all stakeholders of the Rylander community and I am committed to providing authentic, challenging learning experiences for each and every child. I look forward to working with my new Rhino family as we continue to charge to excellence."</p><p>Glasser has worked in the field of education for 28 years. She joined Katy ISD in 2013 as the assistant principal of Morton Ranch Elementary. She had previously served as a principal, assistant principal, instructional specialist and teacher. Glasser received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Baylor University and her Masters in Educational Administration from Houston Baptist University.</p><p>Linares and Glasser will join their new campuses on June 18 and June 11, respectively. Linares will replace Kerri Finnesand, who was recently named principal of Seven Lakes High School. Katy ISD Police Officers Honored for Demonstrating Bravery Behind the BadgeKaty ISD Police Officers Honored for Demonstrating Bravery Behind the Badge2018-06-01T19:37:47Z<div class="ExternalClass1CAFE9553AC94A3A93818D7B2E8A2052"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">This summer two Katy Independent School District students will enjoy their school break thanks to the quick thinking of three Katy ISD Police Officers.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Officer Christopher Pickering, Officer Michael Seiss and Officer Jose Gonzalez used their law enforcement and crisis management skills to save the lives of two students contemplating suicide.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Chief of Police Robert E. Jinks, along with his staff, honored them with the </span><em style="text-align:justify;">Chief's Meritorious Citation Award.</em><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">On January 8, 2018, Officer Pickering was dispatched to a residence in reference to a possible suicidal student.  Officer Pickering's crisis intervention skills and his ability to develop a rapport with the student led to a voluntary mental health evaluation which saved the student's life.  After receiving treatment, the student informed the police department that Officer Pickering's dedication to his duty and his show of concern prevented him from taking his life that evening.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">On March 7, 2018, Officer Seiss and Officer Gonzalez were dispatched to Cinco Ranch High School in reference to a possible suicide.  Upon arriving both officers quickly assessed the severity of the incident and immediately began life-saving measures, that included creating a make-shift tourniquet with a leather belt, in order to halt the loss of blood from the victim. Katy ISD Appoints New Principal of Seven Lakes High SchoolKaty ISD Appoints New Principal of Seven Lakes High School2018-05-30T19:50:53Z<div class="ExternalClass7468E440E20E4741B1C5AB3542FD623E"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">Katy Independent School District Superintendent Lance Hindt appointed Kerri Finnesand as the new principal of Seven Lakes High School (SLHS).</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Finnesand will be replacing Ted Vierling who was named the new assistant superintende</span><span style="text-align:justify;">n</span><span style="text-align:justify;">t of operations during the monthly Katy ISD board meeting.</span><span style="text-align:justify;"> </span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">"Becoming a Spartan is a distinction I will value tremendously," says Kerri Finnesand, new principal for SLHS.  "I will uphold the great work that has taken place by the campus students and staff and also strive to advance the educational excellence values as well as the character and service we offer at this campus that I now call my new home," added Finnesand.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Ms. Finnesand has 22 years of experience in education.  Her service includes five years of teaching, three years as an assistant principal, two years as an intermediate principal and 13 years as a principal at all three levels.  Ms. Finnesand holds a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University and a Master of Education from the University of Houston.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Ms. ​Finnesand will join the Spartan family on May 31.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">​​<br></p></div>
