FINAL REMINDER: PowerSchool RegistrationFINAL REMINDER: PowerSchool Registration2018-08-15T14:53:27Z<div class="ExternalClassDC0D65E304914A6CBF3EE09BD254D8B3"><p>School begins <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Wednesday, August 15,</strong></span> and Katy ISD is excited for another great school year here in Katy ISD.</p><p>Aside from getting all their school supplies ready and running those last minute errands, Katy ISD wants to send a final reminder to parents of returning students, to <em>Power Up for Back to School</em> through PowerSchool Registration, formerly known as InfoSnap.</p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>All returning Katy ISD students are required to submit their child's Annual Student Update for the 2018-19 school year using PowerSchool Registration.  These updates are due by August 15</strong></span>.</p><p>All parents and guardians were emailed a unique SnapCode for each student currently enrolled in Katy ISD, to their email address on file. Students are dismissed at 3:55 PM. Because of the change in school hours, please be aware that school zone times are different this school year. School zone times are 8:00 am-8:50 am in the morning and 3:45 pm-4:30 pm in the afternoon.</font></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">BUSES </font></span></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">Please access </font><a href="/"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><font color="#0563c1" face="Times New Roman" size="3">www.katyisd.org</font></span></a><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> to check for bus eligibility and route information. If your student rides the bus, please be out at your stop a few minutes early. Buses routes to and from MMJH may run late the first few days. Because of the limited number of buses, notes for a temporary change in transportation will be approved on an emergency basis only by a member of the administrative team.</font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">WALKERS AND BIKE RIDERS</font></span></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">Students need to be careful walking or riding their bikes to and from school. The beginning of school means increased traffic and more cars in the area. MMJH is encouraging students to walk or ride in groups for safety. If driving in the area, please be attentive for students coming to and going from the school. Bike racks are located at the East end of the school next to the bus drop off area and on the West side of the building next to the science wing for use by students.  Please encourage your student to wear a helmet and bring a lock for their bicycle.</font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">DROP OFF AND PICKUP</font></span></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="3"><font color="#000000">Please be friendly, patient, attentive, and flexible when dropping off or picking-up your student at MMJH. There is always a large number of vehicles in car rider traffic. As you turn onto school property, <em>please be on the lookout for pedestrians and bike riders</em></font></font><font color="#000000" size="3">. There are two lanes leading up to the front of the school. The one on the right is for dropping off students. As you approach the drop off area, please follow staff directions to move as far down the lane as possible to help alleviate congestion and allow us to unload students in a safe, timely manner. </font><em><font color="#000000" size="3">Please do not use the lane on the left to drop off students.</font></em><font color="#000000" size="3">The left is for staff and visitor parking. Please do not drop off students on Westheimer Parkway, the teacher parking lot, Willowfork Golf Club, nearby subdivisions, or the bus loading/unloading area as this constitutes a safety hazard for students. </font><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><font color="#000000" size="3">Please note that it is illegal to take a left hand turn from Westheimer Parkway into the front entrance during school zone hours on school days</font></span><font color="#000000" size="3">. Students should be picked-up by 4:05 in the afternoon.We do not have supervision for students after this time.</font></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><strong><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL</font></strong></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="3"><font color="#000000">On Wednesday, August 15th, <em>no parents,</em></font></font><font color="#000000" size="3"> are permitted to enter the building to drop off or walk their students to their first period class. It will make the halls very congested and will hinder us from getting students into classes in a timely manner.</font></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">WHERE TO REPORT:</font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3">All students will report to their assigned area when they enter the building. Staff will be there to guide them. Please do not drop off students prior to 7:45 am. Students will not be allowed in the building before 7:45 am. Beginning at 7:45 am we have coverage for early arrivals in the cafeteria.  Students arriving prior to the front office opening at 8:10 am should report directly to the cafeteria via the patio area and cafeteria doors directly. After 8:10 car riders, bike riders, and walkers will enter the building through the front entrance. Bus transported students will enter through bus loading zone area on the East side of the building.</font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><ul><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><ul><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><ul><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><li style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;"><span style="">6th grade-reports to practice gym</span></li><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><li style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;"><span style="">7<sup><font size="2">th</font></sup> grade reports to the competition gym</span></li><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><li style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;"><span style="">8<sup><font size="2">th</font></sup> grade reports to the cafeteria.</span></li><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><li style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;"><span style="">Students wanting to purchase breakfast will be allowed to come to the cafeteria.</span></li><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font></ul><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font></ul><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font></ul><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font face="Times New Roman"><font color="#000000"><font size="3">All students will be given a new schedule in the above assigned areas even if they received a schedule at 6</font><sup><font size="2">th</font></sup></font><font color="#000000" size="3"> grade Bobcat camp or 7/8</font><sup><font color="#000000" size="2">th</font></sup><font color="#000000" size="3"> grade schedule pick-up, just to ensure everyone has a correct schedule. Students that have questions or concerns about their schedules should fill out a form and place it in the appropriate box located outside of the counselor’s office. </font><em><font color="#000000" size="3">Schedule changes for electives will not be allowed due to increased enrollment and staffing decisions based on chosen classes in the spring</font></em><font color="#000000" size="3">. </font></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><strong><font face="Times New Roman"><font color="#000000"><font size="3">At MMJH students will not be assigned a locker.  Students can request a locker from their grade level assistant principal beginning on Wednesday, August 15</font><sup><font size="2">th</font></sup></font><font color="#000000" size="3"> during lunch. Students are allowed to bring their backpacks with them to all classes. </font></font></strong></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font face="Times New Roman"><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><font color="#000000" size="3">BREAKFAST AND LUNCH</font></span><font color="#000000" size="3">:</font></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="3"><font color="#000000">Please make sure that your child has enough funds to purchase a breakfast and lunch each day. In the event that no funds are available for a student, they will be allowed to charge three meals onto their account. After the third charge, students will not be permitted to charge anymore lunches until funds are sent to their account. Lunch money can be sent with your child in the form of a check or online through the <strong>Home Access Center</strong></font></font><font color="#000000" size="3"> (HAC). Please monitor your student’s account on a regular basis so that they may enjoy a healthy meal each and every day. </font></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font face="Times New Roman"><strong><font color="#000000" size="3">DRESS CODE</font></strong><font color="#000000" size="3">:</font></font></p><font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="3"><font color="#000000">Please remind your student that dress code <strong>WILL</strong></font></font><font color="#000000" size="3"> be enforced the first day of school. Skirts/shorts must be mid-thigh, and pants with holes in them above mid-thigh are also not allowed. Shirts must cover everything! If girls wear leggings, they must wear a shirt or skirt over it that comes to at least mid-thigh. For boys, no sagging pants. Students are not allowed to wear hats or headgear in the building. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the times listed for junior high are hours of regular operation. Katy ISD Announces Safety and Security EnhancementsKaty ISD Announces Safety and Security Enhancements2018-08-08T21:53:24Z<div class="ExternalClassB89FCB2BA1E34FC688FFAA266A4BD49F"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">One of Katy Independent School District's top priorities is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, parents and community members, who visit our campuses and facilities. This school year, Katy ISD announces additional campus safety and security measures which include:</span></p><p></p><ul><li><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Parent and Visitor Identification (ID) Requirement:</span><br>All parents and visitors must now present a valid, current, government-issued picture ID outside of the main entrance at all Katy ISD campuses prior to gaining admittance.  Each campus is equipped with a controlled access system that includes a camera and an intercom that parents and visitors will need to utilize when presenting their ID for entrance.  To gain further access beyond the campus front lobby, individuals will again be required to present their ID to the front desk receptionist in order to be officially logged into the visitor tracking system.</li></ul><p></p><ul><li><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Student Identification (ID) Badge Requirement:</span><br>Secondary students must now wear their ID badges at all times during school hours, while on district property.  Students in grades PK-5 will continue to use their badges during lunch and library times.  Fourth and fifth-grade students are requested to wear their badges throughout the school day.  At the secondary level, failure to follow the ID badge requirement may be considered a violation of the <em>Student Code of Conduct</em>.<br> </li><li><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Campus Door Unlock Times</span>:<br>Controlled access systems on campuses will now unlock main entrance doors at a set time each morning. The standard door unlock times for main entrance doors are:<br><br>          Elementary Group 1                    7:35 a.m.<br><br>          Elementary Group 2                    7:55 a.m.<br><br>          Junior High                                 8:10 a.m.<br><br>          High School                                6:45 a.m.<br><br>Students who are dropped off before the doors are unlocked will not be able to enter the building, unless they are there for an official school activity or other exception.<br> </li><li><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Clear Bag Regulation:<br></span>T<span style="text-align:justify;">o ensure visitor safety, along with a quick and efficient entry into our event venues, Katy ISD has instituted a clear bag regulation.  This will limit size and type of bag allowed at the sporting events, performances and graduations held at Rhodes and Legacy stadiums, as well as the Leonard Merrell Center (LMC) and the Katy ISD Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Agricultural Sciences Center.</span></li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">These enhancements are in addition to Katy ISD's existing multi-layered safety and security measures already in place across the District.  For additional information visit our <a href="/students/Pages/SafetySecurity.aspx">Student Safety and Security webpage</a>.</p><p> </p><p> </p></div>
