style="text-align:justify;">Children living in households whose income is at or below the federally approved levels based on household size may be eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Transfer students approved for the program from another school district may either complete a Katy ISD application or provide documentation of their eligibility status from that same school year. Foster children who are the legal responsibility of a welfare agency or court may also be eligible for benefits regardless of the income of the household with whom they reside. Children with status as homeless, runaway, migrant or displaced by a declared disaster also qualify for meals.

The Nutrition and Food Service Department encourages parents in all eligible households to complete an online application which will be available two weeks before the start of the new school year. Katy ISD Nutrition and Food Service Department is working with local agencies to identify all children who are program eligible. If a student receives a letter of approval on the first days of school, there is no need to complete a new application for the 2018-19 school year. If a child was on the program at the end of the previous school year, they are eligible for the same benefit for the first 30 operating days of the new school year or until a new application is processed. A new application per household is required each school year. For families that do not receive a letter and believe they should have or for those missing students in the letter received, they can contact the Nutrition and Food Service Department at 281-396-6240. Staff is also available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Nutrition and Food Service Department located at 5364 Franz Road, Katy, TX 77493. Please bring the names of all members of the household and their gross monthly income.
<p courses (grades 6-10) are designed to prepare students to be successful in Advanced Placement (AP) courses (grades 9-12). AP courses are generally available to juniors and seniors at each of the Katy ISD high schools. AP courses provide students the opportunity to engage in college level studies with the option of taking an AP exam and possibly qualifying for college credit. In addition, research indicates that students who participate in an Advanced Placement course are more likely to complete an undergraduate program, more likely to choose academically challenging majors in college and more likely to pursue an advanced degree. Katy ISD offers Advanced Placement courses in the following disciplines – English, social studies, science, mathematics, languages other than English, computer science, music and art.

For questions about secondary course selection, attend events held at each junior high campus (dates are publicized by the junior high); consult the 2018-2019 Course Catalog; or, contact the junior high counselor.
