Katy Independent School District

MayDell Jenks Elementary

Welcome to Jenks' Nurse's Notes.

Welcome back to school, Jaguars!  I am looking forward to an exciting new year!  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Here you will find virtually all the information you will need regarding campus and district guidelines for student illnesses and medications.

IMMUNIZATIONS

Your child is required to be up to date on all immunizations in order to attend school. If or when it is found that your child is behind on a vaccination, the nurse will send a note home.  Be sure to check their take-home folder daily. There are many resources in the community that offer free or reduced-cost vaccination clinics. Please call the nurse to find out about these opportunities.
If you choose not to vaccinate your child, you must turn in a notarized, original state-issued affidavit for "Reasons of Conscience" to the clinic.

ILLNESS/INJURY

Katy ISD policy requires that students with vomiting, diarrhea, or fever of 100 degrees or greater MUST stay home. They must remain at home until symptom-free for more than 24 hours without the use of medications, such as Tylenol, Motrin, Immodium, Pepto Bismol, etc. If your child has been diagnosed with an infectious disease (ex: chickenpox, measles, strep throat, pink eye, lice, etc), please notify the nurse as soon as possible. If they have been injured and must refrain from strenuous physical activity, it is the parent's responsibility to send a note to school to excuse the child from PE and/or recess.

MEDICINE

Students may NOT carry medication with them at school. All medication must be turned into the nurse in its original packaging and must be accompanied by the district Medication Permission form.

CLOTHING

Please pack an extra set of clothing for your child, including underwear and socks. Keep it tucked in your child's backpack for emergencies.

Please check the Health Services website for more information from the district.
