Taylor High School Fine Arts Department presents Les Misérables School Edition. Considered to be in the top ten most popular musicals of all-time, Les Misérables is adapted by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg from the Victor Hugo's landmark novel set amidst 19th century France's social change and political revolution.

The story follows Jean Valjean (played by senior Jarrod Wells) imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread to save his starving niece. Upon release on parole, Inspector Javert (sophomore Jacob Lewis) tells Valjean that he will never be more than a thief. Valjean finds life outside of prison harsh as a literally branded man. After finding unexpected kindness from the bishop (senior Daniel Oluoha), Valjean breaks parole and creates a new identity and life for himself. Time passes and Valjean is now the mayor and a successful businessman. When he finds his former employee Fantine (senior Abigail Boyce) on death's bed, he vows to care for her daughter Cosette (fourth grader Maddie Derr,) whom he must buy off the con artist couple, the Thénardiers (senior James McCann and junior Ashleigh Townsend). As Cosette (sophomore Caitlin Zimmerman) grows to become a woman, economic and political changes places Paris on the verge of a revolution. Cosette falls in love with student revolutionary Marius (junior Ryan Lauer). Valjean joins the revolution to protect the man his daughter loves while also being pursued by his nemesis Inspector Javert.

Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. The sung-through pop opera overflows with memorable melodies. James E.
