Twenty-Four Katy ISD Schools Earn Texas Honor Roll DistinctionTwenty-Four Katy ISD Schools Earn Texas Honor Roll Distinction2019-06-12T13:38:24Z<div class="ExternalClass48659A5DE8154C4FA5480B7ABA2B5E11"><p>What better way for Katy Independent School District to end the 2018-19 school year!  Out of its 65 campuses, Katy ISD is proud to announce that 24 of its schools were named a <em>Texas Honor Roll School</em> by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP).  <br></p><p>"Receiving this prestigious recognition is a clear demonstration of how hard work and dedication produces positive results.  Likewise, it's a reflection of the collaborative efforts taking place among our school leaders, staff, parents, students and the community who strive to increase academic achievement and improve educational outcomes for all our students," said Christine Caskey, Ed.D., Chief Academic Officer.<br> <br>The 2018-19 Texas Honor Roll includes:</p><ul><li>Alexander Elementary</li><li>Creech Elementary</li><li>Griffin Elementary</li><li>Holland Elementary </li><li>Kilpatrick Elementary</li><li>Randolph Elementary</li><li>Shafer Elementary</li><li>Stanley Elementary</li><li>Williams Elementary</li><li>Wilson Elementary</li><li>Wolman Elementary</li><li>Beck Junior High</li><li>Beckendorff Junior High</li><li>Katy Junior High</li><li>McMeans Junior High</li><li>Memorial Parkway Junior High</li><li>Seven Lakes Junior High</li><li>Tays Junior High</li><li>WoodCreek Junior High</li><li>Cinco Ranch High </li><li>Mayde Creek High </li><li>Seven Lakes High</li><li>Taylor High </li><li>Tompkins High</li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">After an extensive analysis of student data, ERP found that these Katy ISD schools were clear leaders in getting students to grade level and beyond.  The 2018-19 Texas Honor Roll recognizes public elementary, middle and high schools that consistently demonstrate high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in student outcomes over time and a closing of the achievement gaps.  For high schools, the Texas Honor Roll recognition includes measures of college readiness.  This year, the program recognized 855 higher performing schools across the state.  These schools become an accepted example to other school districts seeking to learn and replicate the best practices employed at these campuses.</p><p>Katy ISD schools will be provided with a banner to display at their campus.<br></p><p><br></p></div>
BDJH Science Olympiad Wins Big!BDJH Science Olympiad Wins Big!2019-06-06T18:30:19Z<div class="ExternalClass5768622EC6AB4D498FBB57B505ECA73C"><p>You might think the halls of Beckendorff Junior High School (BDJH) are quiet after 4pm, but the kids of Beckendorff's nationally ranked Science Olympiad team can be found hard at work for hours after school studying advanced science, experimenting with mysterious chemicals, and developing efficient engineering techniques for their events.</p><p> </p><p>Science Olympiad is one of the nation's most prestigious Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) competitions featuring 23 rigorous hands-on events led by experts from government agencies, top universities, and industries. Approximately 8,000 teams from middle and high schools from all 50 states, along with an international team from Japan, compete against each other in events in a variety of fields ranging from Life Sciences, Personal and Social Science, Earth and Space Science, Chemistry, Technology and Engineering. </p><p> <img src="/campus/BDJH/PublishingImages/Lists/latestnews/AllItems/BDJH%20Nats%20pic.png" alt="BDJH Nats pic.png" style="margin:5px;width:600px;height:342px;" /><br></p><p>The BDJH Science Olympiad team recently competed at the 35th Annual National Science Olympiad Tournament at Cornell University on June 1st, 2019, after being crowned State Champions at Texas A&M University last month. The top team from each state competes at the National competition, and BDJH placed 4th in the nation overall and had several students win individual medals in their events, an incredible feat in a very tough competition field. Led by Coaches Sara Morgan Allen and Pamela Ward, the team consists of students Aayushi Gandhi, Aidan Lai, Akanksha Acharya, Akash Joseph, Albert Yang, Andy Li, Darsh Shah, Emily Wu, Ethan Sun, Grace Dias, Guhan Periyasamy, Joshua Zhou, Karan Sura, Nora Xiao, Phoenix Wu, Sahil Gandhi, Shriman Thandra, Stephanie Wang, and Vishnu Indukuri. Congratulations to the whole team and the coaches on their incredible achievement!<br></p><p><br></p></div>

BDJH's 6th Grade Math CampBDJH's 6th Grade Math Camp2019-05-28T21:57:29Z<div class="ExternalClassC10B2DCB806B4372898E7A254E9071B4"><p>The Beckendorff Junior High math department is pleased to present a 6th grade math camp for incoming 6<sup>th</sup> graders on Monday, July 29 & Tuesday, July 30.  Students can choose a morning class for either Academic or PreAP/GT sessions that run from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM both days, or an afternoon session for either Academic or PreAP/GT classes that run from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM both days.  The two-day session cost is $15.  Cash or checks made out to BDJH will be accepted. All math sessions will be taught by BDJH math teachers in 6<sup>th</sup> grade math classrooms. </p><p>Registration for this camp will <span style="text-decoration:underline;">only</span> be on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23<sup> </sup>from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day in the rotunda of BDJH.  You must have a completed registration form and the $15 registration fee at the time of sign-up.  You may have a neighbor or family friend register your child for this camp if these times are not convenient for you.  We will register students on the first day of math camp if spaces are still available.  <strong>NOTE:</strong> Class sizes will be capped at 20-24 students per teacher depending on whether the session is academic or PreAP.  Morning sessions tend to fill the fastest.  </p><p><strong>WHEN:</strong>  Camp dates are Monday, July 29 <span style="text-decoration:underline;">and</span> Tuesday, July 30</p><p>                   AM session ~ 8:00 – 11:00 <strong>OR</strong> PM session ~ 12:00 – 3:00 each day</p><p><strong>WHERE:</strong>  BDJH math classrooms with BDJH math teachers</p><p><strong>WHO:</strong>  Any incoming 6<sup>th</sup> grade student attending BDJH 2019-20</p><p><strong>HOW TO REGISTER:</strong>  Bring your registration form* and fee on either Monday July 22 or Tuesday July 23 to BDJH.  Sign-ups will be in the rotunda from 9:00 – 2:00</p><p><strong>*Registration forms will be sent to all feeder elementary schools as well as being available on the BDJH website beginning June 1, 2019</strong></p><p style="text-align:center;"><strong></strong></p><a href="/campus/BDJH/SiteCollectionDocuments/BDJH%202019%206th%20Grade%20%20Math%20Camp%20Registration%20Form.pdf"><p>Click here for the Math Camp registration form.<br></p></a><p><br></p></div>
Algebra 1 Math CampAlgebra 1 Math Camp2019-05-28T21:54:38Z<div class="ExternalClass731EC62532894A26A0A11158AA3BA989"><p>The Beckendorff Junior High math department is pleased to present Algebra 1 math camp for 8<sup>th</sup> graders enrolled to take Algebra 1 during the 2019-20 school year.  The sessions will be taught by BDJH algebra teachers at Beckendorff.  The two-day session cost is $15.  Cash or checks made out to BDJH will be accepted. <strong>Registration for this camp will be on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM each day in the rotunda of BDJH.</strong>  You must have a completed registration form and the $15 registration fee at the time of sign-up.  You may have a friend or neighbor register your child for this camp if these times are not convenient for you.
