The purpose of Science
Olympiad is to examine science in everyday life and to discover how science
works by emphasizing problem solving skills and understanding science concepts.
Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing
nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology,
mechanical engineering and technology. By combining events from all
disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to
get involved. In addition, participating in Science Olympiad develops teamwork
and cooperative learning strategies, promotes high levels of achievement and a
commitment to excellence.
Since WoodCreek Junior
High opened its doors, the Science Olympiad Team has qualified for and competed
at the state competition on the Texas A&M campus in College Station every
year. This year we will aim to qualify for the Science Olympiad National
Tournament on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins, Colorado.
