This is a service the Tays JH PTSA has set up for the convenience of our parents and students to help facilitate the correct supplies needed for the 2018-19 school year. This is not a money earning service for the PTSA, as such we are requiring that those using this service become PTSA members. Your membership will go to help support the programs and services that the PTSA provides our school. Some of the things provided are the Cyber Talk that we do for the 6th graders at the beginning of the year, the HMNS program for the 7th graders, speaker Keith Davis for the 8th graders in January. We also help to provide technology and support to our teachers, staff and students at Tays. With the purchase of a PTSA membership and school supplies you will become a part of supporting our school. .

If you have any further questions please contact me at president@taysjhptsa.org

Thank you,

Jennifer Lowry

Tays Junior High PTSA President

Hey Parents,

We are so excited to announce a new partnership with 1st Day School Supplies! We have collaborated with 1st Day School Supplies to help parents and teachers get the exact supplies needed for next school year without the hassle and aggravation of shopping at Wal‐Mart, Target or Staples. We will use the WCE website with this thinking in our approach next year. Social media is a medium WCE uses in order to communicate the "soul of WoodCreek." Want more than just a calendar update? What is that school like that I send my kid to for eight hours a day? Social media will communicate these kind of things. While this type of communication is not necessary for your family to know the required information needed to operate at WCE, we feel it enhances your experience with our school. It is the human touch to our communication. Therefore, we will continue to use Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to communicate our soul. Each of these three approaches have their own purpose. This will allow us to continue to communicate with you in a more manageable way.

So, how is this different? We will be moving away from the over-use of email. In Canvas, you can setup the way you want to be notified. You want a text? Canvas can do that. You prefer emails? Canvas is on it. Do you prefer no notifications and you will just check it on your own? Canvas can handle that too! Canvas will be the "hub" for information that you and your child will NEED for anything related to their success at school. Will kids still use things like See Saw or other Web 2.0 tools? Sure! But, these will all be tied to Canvas. Are you someone that wants to know when things are happening? Just sync your calendar to Canvas and have it load directly to your phone's calendar. The teachers have been working together this semester to design their unified pages in Canvas for you and your children. This is going to be different, but very good.

I've been asked a few times why I am not writing weekly in this newsletter anymore. Well...I am transitioning the information I normally share here (soul-type communication) to social media for WCE. Do you like to see more than just calendar updates? Come check me out on Facebook, Twitter,and/or YouTube. You will see multiple updates a week that share WCE's soul. Many teachers post everyday at #wcerangers on Twitter. In a school this size, I cannot possibly share all of the good that is happening. But, I can still share. While I am already transitioning, all of these changes will officially go into effect next school year. My intent today is to only let you know what is coming. More information about how to use Canvas or log in will come at a later date. In the meantime, be sure to "like, subscribe, and follow" us:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/principalmosher/

Twitter: https://twitter.com/wcerangers

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/ronniemosher

We love our families and we want you to be a part of your child's experience at WCE. Thank you to everyone that participated in our parent survey last semester. Your guidance has helped us to shape our approach on communicating with you in ways that work for many. We are proud to partner with you to create our future.

Love Never Fails,

Ronnie Mosher

Principal

The Week Ahead

May 7

Nurse's Day

1st Grade Field Trip - Robert R. "Honesty is the first chapter in the Book of Wisdom" (Thomas Jefferson). Below are some great activities that you can do with your family so that we can SAY, KNOW, SEE and BE what it means to spread honesty!

SAY IT:

Honesty is choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do.

KNOW IT:

Ask a kid:

Have you ever heard the saying "honesty is the best policy"? Can you think of a person you know that is consistently honest?

Think of a time when it was difficult to be honest because you were afraid of the consequence.

What happens at school and home when you are not honest with adults? What happens in these settings when you are honest?

Ask a grown up:

Share an example of a time when you were honest even when it was difficult to do so.

What was your consequence when you were growing up for not being truthful with your parents?

SEE IT:

The Disney classic Pinocchio is a perfect example of how being dishonest only increases the problem. Viewers are able to see Pinocchio's nose grow with every fib and white lie he tells. While this is simply a figurative way of teaching honesty, we can see how this relates to real life. Think of real life consequences of being dishonest and discuss them with your family.

BE IT:

As a family, discuss ways to be honest with others. Ideas for discussion might be accepting responsibility for your actions rather than lying about the incident, avoiding situations in which you will have to lie for others, and thinking about things you do that make you feel bad or guilty.

Book Suggestions for HONESTY:

Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna (K-5)

Franklin Fibs by Paulette Bourgeois (K-2)

A Big Fat Enormous Lie by Marjorie Sharmat (K-2)

The Empty Pot by Demi (K-5)

Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor (4-6)

Sam Tells Stories by Thierry Robberecht (K-2)

Howard B.
