All absences must be reported to the Attendance Office on a daily basis. You may call in to report your child's absence on the day of the absence only at 281-234-1665 or online. For any prior day's absences, a note is required, signed by the parent/guardian. The note must include the reason for the absence; the child's first and last name, grade level and the date/s the absence/s are for. Telephone or online is the preferred method for reporting a student absence. Written notes or doctor's notes are required within three days of the absence.
If you do not call the front office or email the attendance clerk, you child will be marked UNEXCUSED. AN ATTENDANCE LETTER IS SENT WHEN A STUDENT HAS 3 OR MORE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES IN A 4-WEEK PERIOD OR 10 OR MORE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES IN A 6-MONTH PERIOD. Once a student is on a Doctor Note Required status, doctor's notes must be submitted within one school day to be excused. Please visit the Compulsory Attendance / Truancy link for more information.Compulsory Attendance / Truancy
When a student has excessive absences for personal illness that EXCEED five (5) consecutive days, or a total of eight (8) days within a six-month period, a Failure to Attend School letter is issued and the student is placed on Doctor Note Required status. Five school days are allotted to clear any discrepancies. If one or more of the absences for personal illness are corrected and the student no longer exceeds five consecutive days or a total of eight days in a six-month period, The letter becomes void and the student is released from the obligation of providing a doctor's note for future personal illness absences. If the Doctor Note Required status stands and the student continues to be absent for personal illness without providing a doctor's note, unexcused absences will begin accumulating and could result in the student receiving a compulsory attendance notification letter.
Compulsory Attendance/ Truancy
Pre-arranged absences (excused and unexcused will need to be submitted for review by the Campus Principal. You may pick up this form at the front desk or online.
Assignments will not be given to students early. Students will have to make up all work upon their return to school. Please visit the Compulsory Attendance link below for additional information.
Please plan your vacations during the summer, Thanksgiving, winter or spring breaks. All absences for vacation during the school year are UNEXCUSED.
If you have a family emergency, please contact the Registrar (281-234-1665) in the morning to report your child's absence or online. When you child returns to school, send a written note explaining the circumstances. A determination will be made as to whether or not the absence is excused or unexcused.
Please make sure your child arrives at school on time. The school day begins promptly at 8:20am. The car drop off line can become extremely crowded in the morning. (Your child is never tardy when they ride the bus.) If you choose to drive your child to school, please make allowances on rainy days and leave your home earlier to avoid your child being tardy. Tardies will count against your child's exemplary perfect attendance. When you bring your child to school on the same day after a doctor's appointment, bring the doctor's note and your child will not be tardy (arriving before 10:00 am) or absent (arriving after 10:00 am).
If your child is checked out before 10am, he/she will be absent. Any student that is checked out after 10am will have a partial day absence. Please send a doctor's note back with your child and the partial day absence is excused.
To clarify, any child that is checked out before 3:40 pm and is not going home ill or to a doctor's appointment will have an UNEXCUSED partial day absence. UNEXCUSED partial day absence will count against the student's exemplary attendance (perfect attendance).
Students may not be checked out after 3:15 as they will be moving to their dismissal locations at that time.
