Community Invited to Join Katy ISD for Dedication of its Transportation CentersCommunity Invited to Join Katy ISD for Dedication of its Transportation Centers2018-02-23T22:21:28Z<div class="ExternalClass345CF2B0BF5E4252BD449EB2606EBC89"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">It takes a special kind of person to drive a school bus.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Katy Independent School District takes great pride in its bus drivers because they make an impact!</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">They are oftentimes the first and last district employee that many students see each day. In 1931, Katy ISD only had two school buses. Today it has over 650 buses which transport 51,000 students each day.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">"Our bus drivers are amazing people!" said Chief Operations Officer Lee Crews. "They are constantly building positive relationships with students and creating a legacy of outstanding service to our students, staff and district."</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Katy ISD is honored to dedicate its three transportation centers after bus drivers who have left remarkable legacies.  Anna Baker, Cyndy Self and Lester Floyd Reinecker II touched the hearts of many, especially the students they transported every day.  With this ceremony, Katy ISD highlights the values of these great individuals for generations to come.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>What:<br></strong>Katy ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Lance Hindt invite you to the dedication ceremony of the West, South & East Transportation Centers.  Part of the dedication ceremony will include a performance by a Katy High School 2009 Alumni.  A special presentation will be delivered by Congressman John Culbertson, Representative John Zerwas and Mayor Pro Tem Duran C. Katy ISD Announces Advanced Placement (AP) Exams Available to StudentsKaty ISD Announces Advanced Placement (AP) Exams Available to Students2018-02-08T23:06:45Z<div class="ExternalClass0C328C2BDF964461AB66B198D5E8C139"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">Registration for Advanced Placement (AP) exams are now taking place for all Katy Independent School District high school students.  From February 6 to February 25, enrolled students and </span>home schooled<span style="text-align:justify;"> students, can receive details and register at their designated campus.  Late registration takes place from February 26 to February 28 with a $5 late fee per exam. </span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">"Students who participate in AP courses experience college level instruction which builds academic confidence. Participation in AP exams provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate self-assurance and possibly earn college credit. By state law, all public colleges and universities must accept scores of 3 or higher for college credit," says Alene Lindley, Katy ISD Director of Secondary Curriculum, GT and Advanced Academics. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">"Katy ISD strongly encourages students to participate," added Lindley.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Financial hardships should not be an impediment to take the exam.  Partial fee waivers are available for students in economic need.  A partial refund of $60 per exam is available for seniors who have been admitted to a college that does not accept AP exam scores for credit.  These refunds must be requested in writing to the home school counseling office by May 4 with documentation from the college or university's AP exam policy.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">AP exams are scheduled for the week of May 7-14 and May 23-25.  Students who need special accommodations must adhere to the College Board timelines. Katy ISD Hosts 33rd Annual Katy Folk Life FestivalKaty ISD Hosts 33rd Annual Katy Folk Life Festival2018-01-31T16:31:47Z<div class="ExternalClass3E5A9F12D8BA4DBBA6A9676FD3EFC628"><p>​<span style="text-align:justify;">Ever wondered what life was like in Texas during the late 1800's?</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">At the upcoming 33</span><sup style="text-align:justify;">rd</sup><span style="text-align:justify;"> Annual </span><a href="/dept/olc/Pages/FolkLifeFestival.aspx" style="text-align:justify;">Katy Folk Life Festival</a><span style="text-align:justify;">, visitors will get a chance to experience pioneer life by seeing how they dressed, how they survived, the types of foods they prepared and even where their children went to school.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Other activities include:</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">blacksmith demonstrations, hand quilting, woodworking and roping skills presentations.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Admission is only $1.</span></p><p><strong>Where:</strong>         <br>Kenneth D.
