​​​​​Dr Linares Dr. Linares


Dr. Diego Linares, a native of Bogota, Colombia, is the proud new principal at Raines High School, the Opportunity Awareness Center, and the Behavior Transition Program in Katy ISD. In addition to serving as principal in Katy ISD, Dr Linares is an adjunct professor in the Doctorate of Ethical Leadership Program at St. Thomas University in Houston, Texas. 

Prior to his appointment as principal in Katy ISD, Dr. Linares served as School Support Officer in Houston ISD where he led the instructional program and operations of twelve campuses: four high schools, one middle school, and seven elementary schools, most located in the Northwest area of Houston, Texas.  In Houston ISD, Dr. Linares also served as principal of Scarborough High School, a year three Improvement Required school.  Under his leadership at Scarborough High School, Dr. Linares led the school out of Improvement Required by meeting all Texas Education Agency standards and receiving distinctions in mathematics and science during the 2015-2016 school year.  During the 2016-2017 school year, the school received four distinctions. 

Before accepting the challenge at Scarborough High school, Dr. Linares was the principal at Stafford Elementary school in the Stafford Municipal School District, where he received the Principal of the Year Award for the 2013-2014 school year.  Dr. Linares began his career in education in Alief ISD where he first served students as an elementary bilingual teacher before transitioning to the position of high school assistant principal. 

Dr. Linares completed his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Universidad Santo Tomas in Bogota, Colombia, his master's degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Houston at Clear Lake, his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Houston, and his Rice Educational Entrepreneurship Program with the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.  Dr. Linares is the proud father of three children, Olivia 15, Ethan 13, and Luna 8, and is married to Ms. Phuong Uyen Tieu, who is also highly involved in the public education system in Houston.
