As you and your student select courses for the next school year, we want to make you aware of some information regarding high school elective credit courses available at Morton Ranch Junior High that will enable you to make the best choices.

All high school credit courses available for junior high students are for academic credit only; none are taught at the PreAP level.  Katy ISD's grade point system includes weighted credit for PreAP grades.  For example, an "A" earned in a PreAP course is worth 5 grade points, whereas an "A" earned in an academic course is valued at 4 grade points. All courses for high school credit are permanently recorded on the student's transcript.

Regardless of whether the courses are taken in junior high or in high school, there are no weighted grade point options for Algebra I or the first two levels of any Languages other than English, all of which are required for all students.

Please refer to "High School Courses at Grades 7-8" on pages 89-90 of the 2018-2019 course catalog for additional information.

Need to Drop a Pre/AP Course?

For students taking a Pre/AP course who decide that they would like to drop the course because of difficulty or time constraints, you will now need to meet the Pre/AP Course Commitment Requirements. The student will need to complete the "Petition for PreAP/AP Course Exit" form and all of its requirements including, having a parent/teacher conference, attending tutorials, and completing all assignments for the class. Click HERE for more information about the Pre/AP Course Commitment on the Katy ISD website and in the 2018-2019 Course Catalog. Students have until the end of the first six weeks to request a Pre/AP drop, after the first six weeks, they must stay in the course through the end of the fall semester unless they earn an "F" in the course.

Off-Campus Physical Education Program

The program is available to only those students who are attending junior high or high school, grades 6-12, for the fall/spring semesters, as allowed by the District and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

More information regarding the Off Campus PE program can be found by clicking the link below.

 GT Services

Beginning Monday, November 11, 2019, students that wish to be screened for GT services may pick up a Parent Checklist in the counselor's office.

If you are currently receiving GT services and wish to be screened in additional subject areas, you may pick up a Request for Additional GT Services form in the counselor's office.

Both forms must be completed, signed and returned by 3:30 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Be sure to circle the appropriate subject areas and answer all questions.

Screening for GT services will take place from January through April 2020. Testing results will be mailed home during the last week of school.

If a need for GT services is identified during screening, those services will begin in the Fall of 2020.

Additional information can be found on the Katy ISD GT & Advanced Academics website.
