Katy ISD Police Department Seeks Help through Santa Cops ProgramKaty ISD Police Department Seeks Help through Santa Cops Program2017-10-04T18:58:20Z<div class="ExternalClassCA6042A7BAA9474393B8F2F6D7E3AFC8"><p>​<span style="text-align:justify;">Katy ISD Police Department is sponsoring the 15</span><sup style="text-align:justify;">th</sup><span style="text-align:justify;"> Annual Santa Cops Program, aimed at helping families that may be experiencing hardships by providing gifts and clothing for their children during the holidays.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">This year, the program anticipates an increased n</span><span style="text-align:justify;">umber of families in need due to the devastation caused by Harvey.</span><span style="text-align:justify;"> </span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">As in the past, generous sponsors are needed.  Every year students, community organizations as well as district employees make this program a success.  The Katy ISD Police Department welcomes any and all who would like to participate.  If you or someone you know would like to donate and help children this year, please send an email to <a href="mailto:santacops@katyisd.org">santacops@katyisd.org</a>.    </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Sponsor information will be sent out around the third-week of November.  After Harvey, the outpouring of love and generosity has been heartwarming and the Katy ISD Police Department would like to continue the community's support throughout the upcoming holidays.</p></div>
National Prescription Drug Take Back EventNational Prescription Drug Take Back Event2017-10-02T17:29:58Z<div class="ExternalClass36B48BF111314F4BBB6FF8858D89513C"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">The Katy ISD Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public an opportunity to safely dispose of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">The DEA cannot accept needles or sharp objects.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">Any liquids must be in prescribed containers.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.</span><br></p><p><strong>Where:</strong>         <br>Mark L. Katy ISD Board Approves Resolution for Reappraisal of Properties Affected by HarveyKaty ISD Board Approves Resolution for Reappraisal of Properties Affected by Harvey2017-09-29T17:27:59Z<div class="ExternalClass03F2190B6963465AB3F74A3F2E5DD77A"><p>​<span style="text-align:justify;">The Katy ISD Board of Trustees has approved a resolution requesting the appraisal districts of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties to reappraise Katy ISD zoned homes and businesses flooded as a result of Harvey.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">By law, property owners must continue to pay taxes on the full value of their property, even if it has been damaged or destroyed.  Additionally, only a taxing entity, such as a school district, can request a reappraisal of a property after a county has completed its appraisal process for the year.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">"While no homeowner will be required to seek a reappraisal of their home as a result of the Board's action, this resolution will clear the way for thousands of our families who are recovering from Harvey to seek tax relief on properties damaged by the storm," said Lance Hindt, Katy ISD superintendent.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Katy area weathered a historical storm last month which left thousands of residents displaced and a number of neighborhoods destroyed.  When the three appraisal districts approve Katy ISD's request, the Board of Trustees will have created options for residents still facing housing, financial and recovery challenges due to the storm.  </p></div>
Katy ISD Extends Free Meals for StudentsKaty ISD Extends Free Meals for Students2017-09-28T21:46:16Z<div class="ExternalClassD9C9C4E2DF8A46EA8A32D75511D17C9D"><p>​<span style="text-align:justify;">Katy ISD was granted permission by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to extend their free breakfast and lunch service to all Katy ISD students through October 31.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The initiative was previously designated for the month of September.  However, because many Katy ISD families were impacted by the storm and the recovery efforts are ongoing, the District requested a program extension which was approved by the TDA.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">As the rebuilding process takes place in neighborhoods across the district, we encourage the public to visit our <a href="/Pages/Harvey-FAQ.aspx">Frequently Asked Questions</a> guide for more information.   </p></div>
