Katy ISD Breaks Ground on New Junior High and High Schoolhttp://www.katyisd.org/Lists/latestnews/DispForm.aspx?ID=900Katy ISD Breaks Ground on New Junior High and High School2018-05-02T22:10:00Z<div class="ExternalClass804C03D39B9242F595228ECE717FFE9E"><p>​As community development continues around the Cross Creek Ranch subdivision, today the magnified sounds of the Seven Lakes High School (SLHS) Spartan Drumline could be heard for blocks as the groundbreaking ceremony of Junior High #16 and High School #9 took place.  Both schools will alleviate the thriving southwest quadrant of the district and provide relief to existing campuses that currently house students in the surrounding boundaries. </p><p>"Within the walls of these schools, future leaders will be taught, memories will be made and educational opportunities will prepare and inspire," said Superintendent Lance Hindt.  "The construction of these campuses will be a new opportunity for this neighborhood and our community at large, to invest in our students as they create their future," added Hindt.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The buildings will be constructed as part of the 2017 voter-approved bond program.  These educational facilities will not only be state-of-the-art buildings with collaborative spacing and leading edge technology, but they will be equipped with quality educators which make Katy ISD one of the best schools in the country. The construction of both facilities is another example of Katy ISD's promise to the community to provide unparalleled learning experiences to all students.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Also participating in the ceremonial turning of dirt was the general contractors Drymalla and Satterfield & Pontikes as well as PBK Architects, Inc.  </p><p>​Missed the event?  <a href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1810353372318077.1073742102.113148448705253&type=1&l=41ec9c6726">Click here</a> for pictures of the groundbreaking ceremony.</p><p><img src="/PublishingImages/Lists/latestnews/AllItems/JH16%20and%20HS9.jpg" alt="JH16 and HS9.jpg" style="margin:5px;" /><br></p></div>

Now it's time to build it!!  </p><p>Katy Independent School District is kicking off the construction of its 2017 bond projects. The community is now invited to witness the process every step of the way through its newly designed, <a href="/sites/bonds/Pages/default.aspx"><em>Build the Legacy</em></a><em> </em>website. In it the public can obtain project information, see designs, track the status of construction and witness the progress of various projects as they advance.    <br></p><p>"I'm excited to see each project come to fruition for our students and staff at Katy ISD," said Lance Hindt, Superintendent of Katy ISD. "The future is being built right before our eyes and we couldn't have done it without our community."</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The voter-approved $609.2 MM bond includes six new schools (one high school, two junior highs and three elementary schools). Additionally, it also covered a comprehensive renovation to Fielder Elementary School and some much-needed improvements to 61 of our campuses.  Ninety-one (91%) of the bond is for school facilities and 9% is for technology and infrastructure such as buses, portables and storage tank replacements.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">A Community Bond Advisory Committee, which consisted of parents, students, community leaders, representatives of faith-based organizations and business owners dedicated several months to analyzing a facilities plan for the district.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Katy ISD is considered the second fastest growing school district in Texas and was recently recognized by Niche, a ranking and review organization for K-12 schools, as the best school district in the Houston Metro Area.</p><p>​</p></div>

These Katy ISD teachers never set out to be recognized but their commitment has made a difference in the lives of many students.  These bricks will leave a lasting legacy of their remarkable commitment to uphold the district's vision of education.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Being a teacher in Katy ISD gives our educator a life of true meaning and purpose.  The district has some of the best teachers in the country. 2018-19 Transportation Model and Bell Schedulehttp://www.katyisd.org/Lists/latestnews/DispForm.aspx?ID=8722018-19 Transportation Model and Bell Schedule2018-03-01T20:05:46Z<div class="ExternalClass8BFE2709889D48469FB360D596750D30"><p>​<img src="/PublishingImages/Lists/latestnews/AllItems/Your%20District%20Your%20Voice%20-%20smaller.jpg" alt="Your District Your Voice - smaller.jpg" style="margin:5px;" /></p><p>March 1, 2018</p><p>Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians, Community and Staff,</p><p>After careful consideration and review of feedback from 20,000 parents and community members, the Board of Trustees approved a change to the 2018-19 Katy ISD transportation model at the February 26 Regular Board Meeting.</p><p>Beginning this fall, Katy ISD campuses will transition to a multi-bell schedule.  However, criteria for transportation eligibility will remain the same.   Elementary students residing outside of a ½-mile radius of their school and secondary students outside of a 1-mile radius, will continue to be eligible for transportation services. </p><p>The 2018-19 transportation model will include four groups that will begin and dismiss at different times of the school day.  Elementary campuses will be divided in two groups.  Elementary Group 1 will begin school at 8:00 a.m. and dismiss at 3:20 p.m., and Elementary Group 2 will begin at 8:20 a.m. and dismiss at 3:40 p.m.  All junior high campuses will begin at 8:45 a.m. and dismiss at 3:55 p.m.  High school start and dismissal times (7:25 a.m. – 2:35 p.m.) will remain unchanged. </p><p>Katy ISD's Transportation Department is in the process of establishing routes and pairing elementary schools to determine which campuses will be included in Elementary Group 1 and Elementary Group 2.  Information on the start and end times for each elementary campus will be presented to the Board of Trustees at the Regular Meeting on April 23, 2018.  In the meantime, please take a moment to review our <a href="/dept/transportation/Documents/020118_Transp%20Q%20and%20A.pdf">Transportation Questions and Answers.</a> This Q & A will be updated as additional questions are brought to our attention.</p><p>We greatly appreciate the guidance of our parents and community as the 2018-19 model was developed over these past few months.  This model will allow the District to provide the same level of service to families in 2018-19 while enabling us to utilize our drivers more efficiently, as well as address safety concerns in areas of the District that are becoming increasingly congested.</p><p>Thank you for your continuous support and feedback.</p><p>Katy ISD</p></div>
Katy ISD Approves Instructional Calendars for Next Two Yearshttp://www.katyisd.org/Lists/latestnews/DispForm.aspx?ID=869Katy ISD Approves Instructional Calendars for Next Two Years2018-02-28T16:24:21Z<div class="ExternalClassF7F5F6CCC16B427FB371474B760C525A"><p>As part of the Katy Independent School District, "<em>Your District, Your Voice</em>" initiative, the community has provided its input for the upcoming yearly instructional calendar.  The Katy ISD Board of Trustees has approved the following option for the 2018-2019 academic year: </p><table cellspacing="0" width="100%" class="ms-rteTable-default"><tbody><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:50%;">Option #1</td><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:50%;"><p>School Begins:  Wednesday, August 15</p><p>School Ends:  Thursday, May 23</p><p>Instructional Calendar Days:  177</p><p>Full week off for Thanksgiving</p></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p>"The District is required to have a minimum of 75,600 minutes of instruction per school year," says Bonnie Holland, associate superintendent for administration, governance and legal affairs.  "With the options approved, Katy ISD has enough calendar minutes to cover two bad weather days," added Holland.</p><p>K-12 <em>Insight</em>, the external research firm conducting the survey, found that, out of the 22,169 participants, 65% favored option #1.   The Board also approved an instructional calendar for 2019-2020 school year.  This calendar mirrors the preferred components of the 2018-19 calendar.​​​​</p></div>
