What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Support. It is a program that is in place to aid teachers and administrators to create a environment where Wranglers are safe, happy, and able to learn to the best of their ability. PBIS is a decision making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS is a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to (a) organize evidence-based practices, (b) improve their implementation of those practices, and (c) maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. PBIS is the re-design of teaching environments, not students.
Respectful, Responsible, and Safe
Wranglers work hard every day to be respectful, responsible, and safe. Every area in the school has a poster that students can reference to understand how to be respectful, responsible, and safe. You can check out the posters by clicking on the link on the side of this page. JWE has even established a set of parent guidelines to help parents know what it means to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. You can check out the parent guidelines by clicking on the link on the side of this page.
The JWE PBIS Committee has worked with grade level teams to create rewards for students who are showing behavior that is respectful, responsible, and safe. When Wranglers are respectful, responsible, and safe, they have the opportunity to earn "Cowboy Cash." A few examples of how Cowboy Cash can be redeemed for exciting experiences are: using the principal's desk chair as their own chair for a day; bringing a stuffed animal guest to school; sitting at the teacher's desk for the day; wearing a hat all day; or using sidewalk chalk at recess. Each grade level has their own list of PBIS incentives, and the incentives constantly update and become more exciting! Check with your child's homeroom teacher to find out how Cowboy Cash can be used for incentives in class.
Wranglers start out each day by saying the PBS Wrangler Pledge. By saying the pledge, Wranglers are reminded to both work hard and do the right thing. You can find our Wrangler pledge linked on this side of this page.
