Reporting an Absence
Parents should call the attendance line at 281-237-3205 on the day of the absence to report their child absent, OR a written note from the parent, guardian, or doctor must be submitted on the day the child returns from an absence. It is recommended you call in daily to report your child absent to prevent a Compulsory Attendance Notification from being generated for your child. All absences are considered UNEXCUSED until the proper notification and/or documents are turned into the attendance office. Please do not contact the teacher regarding your child's absence. It is the parent’s responsibility to contact the attendance office.
The tardy bell rings promptly at 8:20. Students must be in class, ready to learn at this time. Any students not in their classroom at 8:20 will be marked tardy. Students must obtain an admittance slip from the office. All tardies are unexcused unless a written notice for an excused reason from a parent or doctor is submitted at the time of entry.
Students who accumulate 5 unexcused tardies are not eligible for perfect attendance. Bad weather and traffic are not excused. Please plan accordingly on bad weather days for possible delays.
Please visit the Katy ISD Registration page for up to date registration information, including dates and times of registration, documents necessary to complete the enrollment process and immunization requirements. Refer to the Quick Link box for the Katy ISD Registration page.
Attendance Recognition & Attendance Awards
To earn an annual exemplary attendance certificate:
• A child must be enrolled in Katy ISD on the first day of school and must be present the entire school year. If a child enrolls after the first day, he/she must have a documented record of perfect attendance from his/her previous school.
• Absences from natural disasters or uncontrollable factors will not be counted if officially designated by the Superintendent as being such, i.e., weather conditions.
Note: An exemplary attendance certificate will not be earned if a student has five or more unexcused tardies for the school year.
