PARENTS OF STUDENTS in the 6th GRADE : The State of Texas requires certain immunizations to be given
11th birthday and/or before entering 7th grade. Please see below and send in proof of these immunizations as soon as your child receives them. Please keep this in mind this school year as you visit the doctor and have the opportunity to receive these. Please send in updated immunization documentation as soon as possible. (Remember to keep a copy for yourself.) Notices will be mailed to all 6th grade students who haven't received these shots by the end of March 2018. These mandated immunizations are required before we can give your child their 7th grade schedule next year. If you have any questions, please contact the clinic at 281-237-3325.
Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap): Tdap is required for all students entering 7th grade if at least 5 years has lapsed since the last dose of a tetanus containing vaccine (DTap, DPT, DT). If 5 years have not elapsed since the last dose of a tetanus containing vaccine at entry into 7th grade, then this dose will become due as soon as the 5 year interval has passed. contraindicated.
Meningococcal Vaccine: 1 dose of quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine is required on or after the student's 11th birthday.
Varicella vaccine (chickenpox): Two doses are required with the first on or after the first birthday, and the second dose prior to entry in the 7th grade, unless a parent or physician statement of disease is on file.

It is possible your child may have already received these vaccinations and we just haven't gotten the proof from you. If you find that your child has received them already, please email/fax or send the record via your student to school as soon as possible. Shot documentation needs to be stamped or signed by the validating facility or be on the the facility letterhead. The document must include the month, day and year the vaccine was given.**** Computer print outs are valid only if the administering facility has stamped/signed the print out. *** Please keep a copy for your records when submitting them to the Beck Clinic.
If you find that you have omitted a medication that your student must have before coming home at the end of the day, please bring this medication in the original container to the clinic personnel. Interrupting classes for student medication is discouraged. The student will be called between classes.
If your student is ill, please encourage them to come to the clinic. Any communication regarding illness should come from the clinic in order for the absence to be excused.
Please keep in mind that KISD has a 24 hour rule regarding fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Keep your student home until they are free of any of these symptoms for 24 hours.
24 Hour Rule
Students who demonstrate signs and symptoms of illness or a possible communicable disease should be referred to the school clinic for further assessment. Those with an elevated temperature of 100.0 degrees or above or those who vomit or have diarrhea must be isolated and sent home. The student must be fever free without fever-reducing medication for 24 hours before he/she can be allowed back in school.
Those excluded due to vomiting or diarrhea must also be free of symptoms without the use of preventative medications before being allowed back in school. (Administrative Regulation FFAD) The 24 hour period is used as the standard length of time to determine if indeed symptoms have subsided.
When a student's absence for personal illness exceeds five (5) consecutive days, the student must return to school with a statement from a physician or health clinic verifying the illness or other condition requiring the student's extended absence from school. A student who has been absent a total of eight (8) cumulative days will be required to bring a note from a physician or health clinic verifying the illness or other condition. In either of the above instances, all future absences will also require a note from a physician or health clinic or the student may be taken to school within the first hour of the school day to be assessed by the nurse in an effort to determine whether any symptoms of communicable illness exist that would prevent the student from attending class. Therefore, any time a student is absent and is seen by a health care professional, a note from the health care professional is always in the best interest of the student so that the absence can be specified as either a doctor or health care appointment (for a full or partial day) rather than for personal illness.
Students who become ill at school are sent to the clinic for evaluation by the campus nurse. The campus nurse will call the parent if a student needs to go home or needs to talk personally to the parent. An ill student must leave school through the clinic.
Keep your child at home if he/she as a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher, is vomiting or has diarrhea. Students must be symptom free for at least 24 hours without preventative medication. (For a student sent home from the clinic, at a minimum, the 24-hour rule begins when the student is signed out from school.)
Sick Students with Cell Phones
Students who contact their parents by personal cell phone for medication or for an illness or injury that has not been assessed by the nurse will be handled through Attendance and, if taken home, will be dismissed as a parent excused absence.
Medicine at School
All medications (prescription and nonprescription) brought to the school must be taken to the school clinic immediately upon arrival. Students may transport prescription/nonprescription medication to and from school as long as the medication is not a controlled substance. Students may not be in possession of any prescription or nonprescription drug on school grounds during school hours unless officially authorized by the campus nurse for possession and self-administration of a prescription medication for asthma, anaphylaxis, or diabetes. The following procedures are to be followed regarding medications:
- All prescription drugs dispensed through a physician's office must be in their original pharmacy container or packing and labeled by the pharmacist or physician. The label must include:
-All nonprescription drugs must be in their original container. The written request for administration of these over-the counter drugs, made by parent, guardian, or physician, must contain the following:
- -The student's name.
- -The physician's name.
- - The name and strength of the drug.
- -Amount of drug to be given.
- -Frequency of administration.
- -Date prescription was filled.
-Natural and/or homeopathic-like products, not FDA approved, will not be dispensed in the school setting by school district personnel.
- -Full name of student.
- -Name of drug.
- -Amount of drug to be given.
- -Scheduled hours when the drug is to be given.
- -Reason drug is to be given.
- -Appropriate signature.
Medications prescribed or requested to be given three times a day or less are not to be given at school. Only when a specific time during school hours is prescribed by a physician or the school nurse determines that a special need exists for an individual student, will they be given.
An acceptable schedule that can be followed at home is outlined below:
- 1st dose given with breakfast.
- 2nd dose given with a snack after school.
- 3rd dose given at bedtime (a snack may be needed).
