Character Strong Program at BDJH

Character Strong is a school wide program that focuses on character development in order to help students cultivate social-emotional skills, emotional intelligence, and develop a stronger identity and purpose in school and the world.  Every week your student will be participating in a Character Strong lesson or dare through their social studies class.  When students learn the value of kindness, service, and empathy, they don't just walk out of school being competent at math and science - they walk away being capable, compassionate people.

Legacy Parent Academy

The Katy ISD Legacy Parent Academy is a series of informational sessions specifically designed to assist parents by providing valuable information that relates to topics that go beyond the academic experience.  The goal of the Katy ISD Legacy Parent Academy is to equip parents with strategies and techniques to support their students.  This year, on site sessions will be translated into Spanish using headphones.  The Legacy Parent Academy webpage, which includes session descriptions is accessible at:

http://www.katyisd.org/parents/Pages/Legacy-Parent-Academy.aspx

Love and Logic Parenting Classes

Classes are being offered at multiple campuses during the 2019-2020 school year.  This parenting training program holds a 30 year track record of success and is designed to help parents raise respectful and responsible kids, teach responsibility without losing their love, set limits, avoid power struggles, guide kids to solve their own problems, and teach kids to complete chores.   All parents in the district are invited to attend.  You can access all  registration information at:

Off Campus PE Information

Off-Campus PE is an option available for students who participate in an approved individual sport outside of school hours during the week.  Qualifying Information can be found on the Katy ISD website under the Department of Health and Physical Education.  http://www.katyisd.org/dept/physed/Pages/Off-Campus-PE.aspx.

New Student Registration FYI

The registration process can take time. Please plan at least 2 hours to complete registration on a school day, and on a non-school day it can take even longer because of the volumes of people trying to register. You will meet with our Registrar, School Nurse, and Counselor(s) when you come to register. On a school day, it is best if you come after 8:00AM to avoid the early morning rush of current students in our offices. We also recommend that you come before 1:00PM since our Registrar and Nurse's Offices close at 3:10PM. Thank you and we look forward to meeting you!

GIFTED AND TALENTED DEPARTMENT

Beginning Monday, November 11, 2019, students that wish to be screened for GT services may pick up a Parent Checklist in the counselor’s office.

If you are currently receiving GT services and wish to be screened in additional subject areas, you may pick up a Request for Additional GT Services form in the counselor’s office.

Both forms must be completed, signed and returned by 3:30 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Be sure to circle the appropriate subject areas and answer all questions.

Screening for GT services will take place from January through April 2020. Testing results will be mailed home during the last week of school.  If a need for GT services is identified during screening, those services will begin in the Fall of 2020.

Additional information can be found on the Katy ISD GT & Advanced Academics website.  If you have questions about the Gifted and Talented Program at Beckendorff Junior High, please email our GT Facilitator, Tanya Swindell at TanyaASwindell@katyisd.org.

Speak Up

Katy ISD is replacing Safety Net with a new anonymous reporting system called Speak Up.  This will allow Katy ISD students, parents, and community members to anonymously submit safety and well-being tips to help prevent school related incidences that could cause harm to others.  More information can be found at: http://www.katyisd.org/SpeakUp/Pages/default.aspx
