Carol Gallagher, M. Ed.
Welcome to the Counseling Department at Bear Creek Elementary School. I am Carol Gallagher, your school counselor. I received a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Education degree with emphasis in school counseling from Sam Houston State University. Counseling at Bear Creek Elementary is based on giving students the tools to be successful in school with the goal of those skills being carried over into lifelong learning in all avenues including academics, personal and social. Please feel free to contact me.
The following are some of the programs/activities offered and coordinated by the counselor at Bear Creek Elementary:
Core Essentials-monthly character traits are presented to the students and a take home sent is sent home for the parents to reinforce the trait of the month at home. Refer to monthly calendar for the character trait.
Anti-Bullying Week-videos, lessons and bookmarks are provided to educate students about bullying.
Red Ribbon Week-activities provided to promote drug prevention.
Classroom Guidance Lessons-lesson are provided for students in kindergarten through 5th grade on a variety of topics including respect, responsibility, friendship, trustworthiness, honesty, courage, honor, forgiveness, reporting vs. tattling and others.
Individual Counseling-designed to help students resolve and cope constructively with problems that affect learning at school.
Counselor's Café-kindergarten through 5th grade students are invited to join me in small groups at the special Counselor's Café table in the front hall once a year. We chat about a variety of topics including what they like to do when they are not at school, favorite subjects, pets, or whatever they want to talk about, giving us a chance to get to know each other in a more informal setting.
