Utility Conservation
The mission of the Utility Conservation Manager is to promote the efficient use of all resources available to the Campus while providing a safe and comfortable environment for living, learning, and working. Resources targeted by this program are natural gas, water, and electricity.
Resources and utility systems are critical elements to supporting the campus community. They should be provided such that the campus community can function with minimal interruption and maximum comfort. Utilities are a mandatory expense to the district and therefore must be controlled and reduced as much as possible.
Quite simply, we are going to ask that you use what you need wisely and turn “it” off when you are not using it or are gone. We are committed to doing the same when operating our facilities.
The success of this program is dependent on the amount of support it gets from the campus community. Please join us and “Commit to Conserve”.

Awards and Honors:

In April 2010, Katy ISD signed two one-year contract extensions with TXU Energy and reduced the cost
of purchased electricity. This enabled Katy ISD to receive a maximum of $230,500 in rebates through
TXU Energy. These rebates were earned by the district through energy efficient construction and
renovation projects. TXU Energy presented a check in the amount of $230,500 to Katy ISD at the
March, 2012 Board Meeting. Energy efficient practices not only provide rebates, but also reduce the
district’s energy consumption.

In the last five years, Katy ISD has participated in CenterPoint Energy’s Schools Conserving
Resources, or SCORE, Program, in which school districts are rewarded for completing energy efficient
projects. In 2011, Katy ISD completed a number of projects that reduced energy costs during peak
kilowatt hours while improving the environment for staff. At the March, 2012 Board Meeting CenterPoint
Energy presented a rebate check to Katy ISD in the amount of $73,689 which has brought to Katy ISD
a total of $242,728 in incentives since the program’s inception.
