Katy ISD Safe & Drug-Free Schools & Communities Mission Statement:
The purpose of the Katy ISD Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities program is to educate and to positively influence students to make safe and healthy lifestyle decisions and to eliminate behaviors that have negative consequences in their lives and the lives of others.
Katy ISD Safe & Drug-Free Schools & Communities Belief Statements:
In order to support the provision of safe, disciplined, and drug-free schools we believe: A safe, supportive, disciplined environment is essential to learning. Students learn when their social and emotional needs are met, instruction and content are relevant, and they are authentically engaged. It is the districts responsibility to lead a compelling collaborative charge among schools, families, communities and support agencies. Culture is the most pervasive influence in a school, and even minor steps to create a positive culture can have profound effects on student lives. Administrators, teachers and support personnel have a duty to recognize the characteristics of students in crisis and to respond to these needs. All staff members are role models of positive behavior, who have responsibility to reach out to antisocial, rejected, or apparently troubled students.
